Game Description
Deep Rock Galactic Deluxe Edition is the current Steam bundle name for Ghost Ship Games' first-person cooperative mining shooter. It contains Deep Rock Galactic plus three cosmetic packs, while the underlying game remains a premium 1–4 player experience built around destructible caves, class teamwork, and hostile alien swarms. The Deluxe label is a bundle designation, not a rebrand of the base game.
Mining, Combat, And Destructible Caves
Every mission sends a crew of dwarves from the Space Rig to Hoxxes IV, an alien planet filled with minerals, environmental hazards, and aggressive creatures. The central loop combines cave exploration, resource mining, objective completion, and an extraction run back to the Drop Pod.
The first-person perspective makes the cave layout part of the challenge. Players must read vertical spaces, locate mineral deposits, manage darkness, and improvise routes through 100% destructible terrain. A wall can become a shortcut, a defensive position, or a dangerous opening for another swarm.
Mission caves are procedurally generated, so objectives and routes change between runs. Each mission includes a primary objective and an optional secondary objective, giving groups a reason to explore beyond the safest route before calling the Drop Pod.
Combat is built around positioning rather than simply aiming at targets. Enemy waves can attack from ceilings, tunnels, walls, and open chambers, making team formation, lighting, traversal tools, and ammunition management as important as weapon damage.
Four Classes With Clear Team Roles
The roster consists of Driller, Engineer, Gunner, and Scout. Each class combines firearms with a distinctive traversal or support tool, so a balanced team can solve problems that a single class cannot handle efficiently.
- Driller: Uses powered drills to carve direct routes through rock and carries equipment suited to crowd control.
- Engineer: Builds sentry turrets and fires platforms that create footholds beneath high mineral deposits.
- Gunner: Provides sustained fire, a team-protecting Shield Generator, and a Zipline Launcher for crossing gaps.
- Scout: Uses a Grappling Hook for rapid movement and a Flare Gun to illuminate large sections of the cave.
The strongest squads coordinate these tools instead of treating them as individual conveniences. An Engineer can place platforms for the Scout, the Driller can open a route to an objective, and the Gunner can create a safe window for revives or extraction.
Players can unlock additional weapons and equipment through assignments, then refine builds with upgrades, perks, and weapon modifications. Class progression encourages experimentation without removing the importance of basic cooperation.
Mission Structure And Long-Term Progression
Deep Rock Galactic does not rely on a traditional linear campaign. Its progression comes from completing assignments, raising class levels, unlocking equipment, promoting dwarves, and mastering different mission types and hazard settings.
Mission categories include mining, egg collection, enemy elimination, escort operations, pipeline construction, salvage work, point extraction, and industrial sabotage. These objectives change the shape of a run: some emphasize navigation, while others create set-piece defenses or extended combat encounters.
Assignments connect selected missions into short progression paths. They can unlock new weapons, terminals, regions, and other progression options. Weekly assignments and promotion objectives give experienced players additional reasons to return after the basic equipment has been unlocked.
Promoting a dwarf resets that class's level while preserving unlocked equipment and upgrades. This creates a mastery loop for players who want to develop all four classes rather than committing to one permanent role.
For players who enjoy co-op shooters with procedural stages and build experimentation, procedural sci-fi action like Risk of Rain 2 offers a useful comparison, although Deep Rock Galactic places more emphasis on objectives, navigation, and shared tools than on run-based item stacking.
What The Deluxe Edition Includes
The current Steam Deluxe Edition BUNDLE includes the base game and three cosmetic add-ons: the MegaCorp Pack, Dark Future Pack, and Dawn of the Dread Pack.
These packs focus on visual customization rather than new classes, missions, or combat systems. They add cosmetic options such as armor appearances, weapon frameworks, paint jobs, and other ways to personalize the four dwarves.
The wider game also receives substantial seasonal content through free updates. Seasonal progression and new gameplay additions are separate from the cosmetic bundles, so the Deluxe Edition should not be confused with an all-content collection.
Players who only want the core missions can use the standard base game. The Deluxe bundle is aimed at buyers who want the same gameplay foundation with a small selection of premium cosmetic packs included from the start.
Solo Play, Co-Op, And Friendly Fire
Deep Rock Galactic supports solo missions as well as online co-op for up to four players. Solo miners are accompanied by Bosco, an AI support drone that can help with combat, lighting, minerals, and selected mission tasks.
Co-op is the intended strength of the design. Players share the same cave and objectives, but each dwarf contributes different movement, defense, illumination, and crowd-control options. Reviving a teammate, placing a shield, or opening a shortcut can matter more than dealing the highest personal damage.
There is no split-screen mode in the PC edition. Platform compatibility also matters: the official FAQ distinguishes between platform ecosystems, and saves are not presented as universally transferable between PC and console versions.
Friendly fire is part of the co-op tension, particularly on higher difficulties and during dense swarms. Careless explosives, flamethrowers, and heavy weapons can endanger teammates, so communication and positioning remain important even when the enemy is the immediate threat.
PC Features And Accessibility
The PC version is distributed through Steam and supports keyboard and mouse input alongside controller play. Its Steam feature set includes Steam Cloud, Steam achievements, captions, and Remote Play support on compatible devices.
The game also includes official mod integration through mod.io. Mods can be installed and managed from the in-game modding menu, although unsupported or outdated mods may cause compatibility problems after updates.
Steam lists interface and subtitle support across a broad selection of languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Romanian, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese. Full voice audio is available in English.
The storefront identifies Ghost Ship Games as developer and Coffee Stain Publishing as publisher. The PC edition is best suited to players who want mouse-and-keyboard precision, configurable controls, controller support, and a persistent cooperative progression system rather than a competitive multiplayer ladder.
Who Should Play Deep Rock Galactic Deluxe Edition?
This edition suits players who enjoy cooperative PvE, procedural environments, class-based loadouts, mining, environmental destruction, and repeatable missions with changing objectives. It is especially strong for groups that enjoy discussing routes, coordinating tools, and turning an emergency extraction into a team story.
It is less suitable for players looking for a cinematic campaign, competitive player-versus-player combat, split-screen co-op, or a large open world that can be explored without mission boundaries. The game is structured around repeatable operations and long-term mastery rather than a single authored journey.
For another squad-based first-person game centered on hostile swarms, team-focused horde combat such as Space Hulk: Deathwing Enhanced Edition provides a darker comparison. Deep Rock Galactic is more mobile, more systemic, and more focused on mining and traversal, while Deathwing emphasizes corridor combat and Warhammer 40,000 atmosphere.
Deep Rock Galactic Deluxe Edition FAQ
Is Deep Rock Galactic Deluxe Edition a different game?
No. The current storefront presents Deluxe Edition as a bundle containing Deep Rock Galactic and three cosmetic packs. The base game itself keeps the same missions, classes, progression, and co-op systems.
What is included in the Deluxe Edition bundle?
The bundle includes the base game, the MegaCorp Pack, the Dark Future Pack, and the Dawn of the Dread Pack. These are cosmetic additions rather than gameplay expansions with new classes or mission types.
Can I play Deep Rock Galactic solo?
Yes. Solo missions use Bosco, an AI companion drone that assists with combat, lighting, minerals, and selected objectives. The game remains fully playable alone, although its class design is most expressive in a coordinated group.
How many players can join a mission?
A mission supports up to four players total, including the host. The PC edition provides online co-op and does not offer split-screen multiplayer.
Does Deep Rock Galactic support mods on PC?
Yes. The game provides mod.io integration through its in-game modding menu. Players can subscribe to, enable, disable, and organize supported mods, while outdated mods may need to be removed or updated after a game update.
What makes the PC version distinctive?
The PC edition combines first-person controls with fully destructible procedural caves, four specialized classes, Steam Cloud, Remote Play support, controller input, captions, broad subtitle localization, and official mod integration.
