Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Edition

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is a complete edition of the eleventh installment of the cult series of brutal brawlers, which dates back to 1992. This edition has been expanded with all add-ons released so far. Mortal Kombat 11 was produced by NetherRealm Studios in cooperation with Polish company QLOC.

The original version of Mortal Kombat 11 runs on a heavily modified Unreal Engine 3, offering high-quality graphics with impressive-looking blows, including so-called fatality. For the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S releases, NetherRealm Studio refreshed the engine, switching to Unreal Engine 4 and making rendering improvements in collaboration with the KoreTech development team. These versions boast improved visuals (dynamic 4K resolution and a general tweaking of the visuals) and significantly reduced load times.

Owners of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One received a free upgrade for next-generation consoles. What's more, the game supports cross-play, which allows gameplay between players from different hardware platforms. However, it does not apply to PC and Nintendo Switch users.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate includes not only the basic version of the game, but also Kombat Packs 1 (includes 25 skins for characters and six new playable heroes: Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Sindel, Joker, Terminator T-800, and Spawn), Kombat Pack 2 (includes the characters Mileena, Raina, and John Rambo with the voice and appearance of Sylvester Stallone, who was the protagonist of the Rambo movies), and the expanded storyline expansion Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath (adds a new storyline about Liu Kang, 25 character skins, and three heroes: Fujin, Sheeve and RoboCop). In total, the complete Mortal Kombat 11 edition has 37 playable characters.

Storyline

Mortal Kombat 11 features a carefully directed and cinematic story mode that follows the characters from Mortal Kombat X. Characters are confronted with versions of themselves from the past as a result of the actions of the mysterious Chronicle. They must all face her to prevent history from being rewritten. The story is divided into chapters, and in each chapter we direct a different character - though sometimes we can choose between one of the two characters involved in a scene.

In Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate players also have access to a story expansion (Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath), the action of which focuses on the fire god Liu Kang, who acts as a guardian of time and protector of the Earth Dimension. The protagonist is forced to recruit two allies for help in order to meet the impending threat.

Mechanics

During the course of the game in Mortal Kombat 11 we take part in duels fought on various arenas. Dynamic fights are very bloody and their brutality is emphasized by spectacular fatalities, which are special blows finishing the fight. The authors give us a wide range of fighters - in addition to the old friends, such as Raiden or Scorpion, we can also find completely new faces on the list. In addition, a special Custom Character Variations system was implemented in the game, allowing us to customize individual fighters according to individual preferences.

The gameplay is a bit slower than in the previous part of the series, and other changes have also been introduced. X-Ray blows have been replaced with Fatal Blow attacks, which can only be performed when our character has few life points left. There are also Crushing Blows, which are activated automatically if certain conditions are met - for example, when Scorpion hits an enemy with a spear from the full length of the arena, or when we finish a combo with one demanding special blow.

Game modes

Apart from the story campaign, a lot of single-player content has been prepared. The classic Towers return with a series of challenges, as well as the Towers of Time, which add variety to duels with various modifiers and external factors. They even allow for boss fights - during which three players fight one extremely powerful enemy at a time. In Towers of Time we gain rewards and upgrades of items. All the equipment, which is worth noting, does not give an advantage in the network gameplay. There is also a Crypt mode, in which we explore the ruins and open more treasure chests.

In online mode we fight ranked duels or less obligatory ones - in the former we can't use our own variations of heroes. There is also a tournament system, which allows a convenient way to organize a serious competition among friends.
