Medieval Dynasty

Medieval Dynasty is an intriguing game bordering on action RPG and life simulator with survival and strategy elements, developed by Polish studio Render Cube. This is the second production of the Lodz-based team and quite different from its debut project: the 2018 kart racing game Monster League. This time, the Poles created a realistic game set in the Middle Ages, reminiscent of the Czech Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The title is also the next installment of Toplitz Productions' Dynasty series, albeit clearly different from its predecessors.

The plot

The main hero is an eighteen-year-old peasant who leaves his home to find a job and enter adulthood. The protagonist counts on help from an experienced uncle, but it turns out that the relative has been dead for some time. With the help of a local castellan, the young man receives a piece of land and decides to take care of his future on his own, with an ambitious plan to establish his own settlement and make a name for himself in the area.

Mechanics

The gameplay in Medieval Dynasty is reminiscent of Kingdom Come Deliverance by Czech studio Warhorse. The action is observed from the first person perspective (FPP) and the gameplay is focused on exploring the open game world. We can find NPCs who can give us various tasks, but also wild animals. The beginning resembles typical survivalist productions: we try to take care of the basic needs of the hero by providing him with water and food, hunting and farming. With time, we find materials needed to make the first tools and build a simple house, which will provide us with shelter.

The main goal of the game is to create our own village, and with time transform it into a prosperous city. In the game we can find 18 types of buildings, which we can develop along with unlocking more options from the hero's skill tree. The game is varied by numerous side quests and challenges, as well as the ability to start your own dynasty of nobles.

A special reputation system is connected with it, manifesting itself in the king's interest in our dynasty. In each case, our decisions have a significant impact on the gameplay. Moreover, along with the development of the settlement we will have to take care of the economy, trading with neighbors and taking care of the well-being of our subjects.

Technical issues

The three-dimensional visuals of Medieval Dynasty focus on realism. The game world changes along with our actions (the title allows us to interact with many objects, such as trees, stones, etc.), and the dynamic weather and seasons also have an impact on gameplay. The land is traversed by wild animals, not only faithfully recreated, but also interacting with each other in a similar way to their real-life counterparts. The entire game is based on Unreal Engine 4, thanks to which the graphics present a generally high level.
