War Mongrels

War Mongrels is a work of Polish studio Destructive Creations. The developer has already made such games as Ancestors Legacy strategy or Hatred shooter. WM is a strategy game with isometric view, which is based on stealth and silent elimination of enemies. The idea of the game reminds of such classic series as Commandos or Desperados. The developers take us to the times of World War II, presenting the Eastern Front. The developers do not spare the player from difficult topics such as the Holocaust and mass murders.

Story

We start the game directing the actions of two Wehrmacht soldiers. Ewald and Manfred, as those are their names, decide to take advantage of the confusion caused by the Russian artillery shelling of their unit's positions. The protagonists decide to desert, which begins a long and dangerous journey. The title tells the adventures of a random group of people (German soldiers, Jews, and Poles from the Home Army) who want to survive the turmoil of war. During the gameplay the characters often discuss and comment on each other's actions. It is not uncommon for them to have different views and, as a result, quarrels. The background and inseparable element of the plot are German war crimes, which we often witness.

The creators made sure that War Mongrels was realistic, for this purpose they used the services of a historical consultant. Thanks to this we can see not only faithfully reproduced vehicles, weapons and soldiers' uniforms from that period, but also we are witnesses of authentic historical events.

Mechanics

WM in many aspects resembles the classics of the genre. The game involves quietly eliminating enemies and sneaking through their positions. We get a squad under our command, whose members have unique abilities that allow us to survive. Some of our subordinates can lure enemies into a trap, others can pretend to be enemy soldiers - the way we complete the task depends on our style of play.

The production also includes tactical mode, which allows us to plan the actions of several of our subordinates in detail at the same time, in order to better coordinate their actions.

Of course, if we want, we can also tempt ourselves to an open fight. This is facilitated by a special mode, which, when turned on, orders our soldiers to automatically attack approaching enemies. This allows us to pass certain parts of the game by force. However, the title is still a compilation and we cannot make it a rule. Often there are more enemies than us, and we have to remember about the ammo limit. Additionally, passing a game like "Rambo" is hindered by the fact that the magazines left by the enemies do not always have to match our weapons.

Coop

In the production we can play in single player mode, and also with friends in co-op.

Technical issues

It is worth noting that the developers from Destructive Creations studio took care of the natural animations for the characters. They were created with the help of motion capture technology.

The game has a climatic audio setting, which dynamically changes depending on the situation in which we find ourselves.
