Sherlock Holmes Chapter One

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One is the tenth installment of the adventure game series developed since 2002. The production is a prequel to the whole story, so its action takes place before the events known from the previous parts of the series. Frogwares studio is responsible for this title.

Story

The story presented in Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One takes place at the beginning of the title detective's career. The 21-year-old hero arrives on his family's Mediterranean island to visit the grave of his mother, whose death 10 years ago was the reason for leaving the Holmes estate. This patch of land looks like paradise only at first glance, but in reality it is plagued with a variety of problems such as a clear class divide and tragedies affecting its inhabitants. Over time, the young detective becomes entangled in a big intrigue, which he tries to unravel with the help of his friend Jonathan.

Mechanics

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One offers similar mechanics to the four previous parts of the series. The action here is shown from the third person perspective (TPP). The player finds himself in an open world, where he can move freely.

The driving force behind the game are the tasks which push the plot forward, accompanied by about 30 side missions. Completing them requires various investigations, which involves talking to locals and acquiring certain items, as well as solving logical puzzles. Often to obtain the desired information you need to use trickery (e.g. disguise) or deduction skills of the main character. It is also helpful to be able to "pin" the collected materials to the screen, for example, descriptions of suspects. Solving the case requires a skillful combination of facts and evidence.

The protagonist is equipped with a firearm, but he can use it only in the moments provided by the storyline. Additionally, the production offers a non-linear plot, the course of which is influenced by the decisions made by the player in the course of the adventure (including the use of violence). During breaks from the tasks we can spend time decorating Sherlock's mansion.

Length of the game

Completing the main storyline in Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One is a 12-15 hour task. However, players who want to complete all side missions as well, can spend up to 40 hours in this game.

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One features detailed, fully 3D graphics. We especially like the locations full of details.
