The Tenants

The Tenants is a simulation game that allows us to taste the life of a landlord of rented apartments. The production was developed by the independent Polish team Ancient Forge Studio, and was published by Frozen District.

Mechanics

In The Tenants the action is shown from a bird's eye view. We start the game by buying a property and preparing it for rent, which involves extensive renovation and the purchase of appropriate furniture. Next, there is nothing left to do but to contact potential tenants by phone. After selecting the right (at least at first glance) tenants, we can get busy observing their lives.... and wait for the development of events, which in time can take an extremely "interesting" turn.

For it turns out that it's not only noisy students who can bring trouble on us; a kind-hearted old lady living with a legion of cats can be just as problematic. When things start to get out of hand, it becomes necessary for us to intervene - while a phone call to our neighbors or a visit from the police to our apartment during a loud party doesn't mean the end of the world, a fire caused by an inattentive tenant can greatly complicate our lives.

However, if we rent our apartment to the right people, over time we will start earning money from it. We can invest the money we raise in more real estate. The right investments not only pay off quickly, but also accelerate the growth of the number of zeros in our account, and thus give us the opportunity to acquire more apartments.

Technical issues

The graphic design of The Tenants game was kept in a colorful "low poly" style (it was based on clearly visible polygons).
