Game Description
SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays PC is a single-player tactical RPG from TOM CREATE and Bandai Namco Entertainment. The official PC storefront still uses the original title, with no verified rebrand or replacement edition. Its focus is a large-scale Gundam collection loop built around four featured universes: Wing, SEED, 00, and Iron-Blooded Orphans.
This is not a real-time action game. Battles take place on an overhead grid, while dramatic 3D attack scenes and character cut-ins provide the anime spectacle between tactical decisions.
How Cross Rays Plays
Each stage asks you to deploy groups of mobile suits, pilots, and battleships, then manage movement, attacks, positioning, and support actions across a structured battlefield. The basic rhythm is simple to understand, but the roster-building systems make long-term planning the main attraction.
The campaign follows selected scenarios from the included Gundam productions rather than creating one continuous crossover storyline. You revisit major conflicts, recruit familiar characters, and gradually build a custom force that can operate beyond the original cast assigned to each mission.
Combat rewards team positioning. Units can benefit from nearby allies, coordinated attacks, defensive support, and group-based actions. Resource management also matters because attacks consume energy, while recovery depends on unit conditions, skills, and battlefield relationships.
Victory is not only about defeating every enemy. Optional objectives, reinforcements, secret conditions, and challenge requirements encourage repeat attempts and give experienced players reasons to replay familiar scenarios with different formations.
Development, Design, and Capture
The signature progression loop is built around Development, Design, and Capture. Development lets you evolve a mobile suit through a related production path, while Design combines units to open new possibilities. Capture adds another layer by turning suitable enemy machines into future roster options.
This structure makes the collection process more interactive than a simple character unlock list. A weak or disposable unit can become useful when it leads toward a desired machine, and a captured enemy can provide the missing step in a development route.
Pilots and mobile suits are managed separately, so the strongest team is not always the one that follows the anime exactly. You can assign characters to different machines, develop original groups, and tune your force around range, mobility, support skills, and attack roles.
The result is a customizable Gundam army rather than a fixed party. Fans who enjoy cataloguing machines and experimenting with unit combinations will find more depth here than players seeking a short, character-driven campaign.
Four Gundam Universes
The base game brings together material from Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. It also draws from related side stories and manga-linked productions, including G-Unit, Endless Waltz, SEED Astray, 00F, and Iron-Blooded Orphans: Steel Moon.
That selection gives Cross Rays a distinct identity within the G Generation series. It is aimed primarily at fans of the After Colony, Cosmic Era, Anno Domini, and Post Disaster settings, rather than serving as a broad survey of every Gundam timeline.
The narrative presentation is closer to an interactive retelling and tactical anthology than a new crossover drama. That can be an advantage for players who want to replay recognizable conflicts with their own roster, but it may feel repetitive if you are looking for major story changes or a completely original plot.
Battle presentation is one of the game's clearest strengths. High-definition 3D mobile suits, attack animations, and pilot cut-ins give even routine clashes a strong visual payoff, while the map layer keeps the focus on planning.
Content, Editions, and DLC
The standard PC package contains the main game and its four-universe campaign structure. The current Steam catalog also lists a Platinum Edition that bundles the base game with the Season Pass and Expansion Pack content.
The Season Pass covers four Added Dispatch Mission Sets and an additional dispatch mission focused on movement modifications. The Expansion Pack adds further content beyond the original campaign, while separate bonus quests and production-list additions are included with the larger bundled edition.
Dispatch missions are a distinct part of the progression model. They let you send groups away from the main battlefield to obtain rewards and development assistance, creating a useful alternative to manually repeating ordinary stages for every upgrade.
The commercial structure is therefore straightforward: a paid single-player base game with optional paid content and a more complete bundle. There is no multiplayer campaign or co-op layer that changes how the game should be evaluated.
Who Should Play It?
Gundam collectors are the natural audience. The appeal comes from assembling a personal roster, unlocking production routes, testing pilot-and-unit combinations, and watching recognizable machines perform elaborate attacks.
It also suits players who like deliberate tactical RPGs with a strong roster-management layer. The battlefield is only half the game; the other half is deciding which machines to develop, which pilots to train, and which groups deserve your limited attention.
Players who prefer fast action, open exploration, or a wholly original story should be cautious. The pace is methodical, the presentation often revisits source material, and progression can become a long-term collection exercise rather than a tightly paced campaign.
Knowledge of Gundam helps with character recognition, but it is not mandatory. The scenarios provide enough context to follow the broad conflicts, while the mechanical systems remain accessible to players who are more interested in tactical unit building than franchise continuity.
PC Features and Localization
The PC edition is distributed through Steam and uses the storefront name SD GUNDAM G GENERATION CROSS RAYS. Steam lists the game as single-player and includes Steam Cloud, achievements, leaderboards, Family Sharing, and Remote Play on Tablet.
Keyboard and mouse are supported on PC, and the game is also designed for controller play through Steam's input ecosystem. The store listing does not identify a separate PC launcher, mod framework, dedicated server tool, or anti-cheat system.
Localization covers English, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese subtitles and interface text. Japanese also includes full audio, while the other listed languages provide text localization.
The presentation is best suited to players who want a catalog-style PC experience: clear menus, a large amount of unit data, repeatable development decisions, and tactical stages that can be revisited as the roster expands.
Comparable Tactical Mecha Games
Cross Rays is closest to other single-player mecha strategy RPGs rather than action-focused Gundam titles. Players who enjoy crossover rosters and pilot-focused turn-based missions may also appreciate anime mecha strategy RPGs such as Super Robot Wars 30, although that game brings together a broader range of franchises instead of concentrating on four Gundam universes.
For a more granular machine-management approach, turn-based mecha tactics like Front Mission 3 Remake provide a useful contrast. Front Mission emphasizes part damage and battlefield objectives, while Cross Rays places more weight on Gundam roster collection, development routes, and cinematic attacks.
The key distinction is the balance between tactical combat and franchise cataloguing. Cross Rays is not simply a grid-based strategy game with Gundam artwork; its identity comes from the interaction between source-series scenarios and the systems used to recruit, develop, design, and deploy a custom force.
