Game Description

Left Alive PC is a third-person survival action shooter set in the Front Mission universe. The current Steam storefront still lists the game as LEFT ALIVE, with no verified rebrand, replacement edition, or renamed PC version identified. In war-torn Novo Slava, three protagonists must cross an occupied city while managing scarce supplies, hostile soldiers, Wanzers, and decisions that shape the fate of civilians and supporting characters.

This is a single-player game from Square Enix that sits between a stealth shooter, survival action game, and narrative military drama. It is not a traditional Front Mission strategy RPG, and its mech encounters are part of a broader on-foot survival structure rather than the central format.

Survival Through an Occupied City

Left Alive is played from a third-person perspective across connected combat areas in Novo Slava. Each objective gives you a destination, but the route and method are usually flexible. You can avoid patrols, slip through cover, use traps, take shots from concealment, or trigger a louder firefight when supplies and positioning allow it.

The important distinction is that combat is rarely a simple power test. Ammunition, healing items, and useful equipment are limited, while enemy groups can overwhelm a protagonist quickly. The practical loop is reconnaissance, scavenging, route selection, engagement or evasion, and reaching the next safe objective without exhausting the tools needed for the following encounter.

Players coming from a more polished systemic stealth sandbox may find useful mechanical contrast in open-ended military infiltration games such as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Left Alive is more constrained and survival-focused, but both games reward studying enemy positions before committing to an approach.

Three Protagonists, One Collapsing Front

The campaign alternates between three playable protagonists: Mikhail, a Wanzer pilot separated from his unit; Olga, a Novo Slava police officer with a military past; and Leonid, a former mercenary escaping imprisonment. Their stories overlap as the invasion develops, but each character brings a different perspective on the city and the people trapped inside it.

There is no conventional character-leveling system or ability tree. Progression comes from learning the maps, finding equipment, improving your decisions, and understanding how each encounter can be approached. That makes Left Alive a poor fit for players expecting permanent stat growth or a steadily expanding combat power curve.

The narrative is built around dialogue choices, rescue opportunities, and the consequences of helping or abandoning survivors. Some decisions affect individual characters, while others influence later scenes and the final outcomes. The game therefore treats survival as a moral and logistical problem rather than only a question of defeating enemies.

Crafting, Traps, and Resource Pressure

Crafting is one of the defining systems. Materials collected in the environment can be turned into grenades, radar tools, mines, distractions, healing items, and other improvised equipment. The value of crafting is not just additional damage; it lets you change the shape of an encounter before it begins.

A distraction can pull a patrol away from a doorway. A trap can punish a pursuing group. A radar item can reveal threats that would otherwise make a route too risky. Because resources are limited, the strongest play is usually selective rather than aggressive: spend equipment when it creates a safe opening, not simply whenever an enemy appears.

The game also uses cover, crouching, stealth movement, and line-of-sight management. However, it does not offer the kind of universally reliable stealth takedown chain found in many modern stealth games. Players who expect every isolated guard to be silently removed may find the encounters deliberately restrictive and sometimes unforgiving.

Wanzer Encounters and Front Mission Connections

Wanzers connect Left Alive to Front Mission, but the game uses them as high-impact action set pieces rather than as turn-based tactical units. On-foot characters can face enemy machines, search for opportunities to hijack usable equipment, and occasionally pilot a Wanzer when the situation allows.

Wanzer movement includes roller dash mobility and a short step maneuver for repositioning or avoiding attacks. Machine weapons include arm-mounted firearms and powerful shoulder equipment such as rockets or missiles. Ammunition is not freely replenished, so a weapon that runs dry may need to be discarded or replaced with equipment taken from a defeated machine.

For a direct series comparison, third-person Wanzer shooters like Front Mission Evolved place more emphasis on continuous mech combat and loadout customization. Left Alive instead makes the damaged, improvised, and often temporary use of machines part of a wider survival scenario.

Campaign Structure and Content Model

The main campaign is divided into chapters that rotate between the three protagonists. The structure is authored and story-driven, but optional survivor encounters create room for different outcomes. You may need to revisit areas, reconsider dialogue choices, or change your use of limited resources if you want to protect more people.

Replay value comes from multiple endings, survivor outcomes, alternate decisions, achievement hunting, and experimenting with routes through hostile areas. It is not an endless survival sandbox, and there is no co-op campaign or competitive multiplayer loop. The core experience is a self-contained single-player story.

The PC product is sold as a paid game rather than a free-to-play service. Store materials also identify edition-specific bonus content and supply-oriented packs, including Survival Pack and Destructive Pack content. These extras supplement the campaign with equipment or consumable-style bonuses; they are not presented as a large episodic expansion campaign or season-pass structure.

PC Features and Practical Details

The Steam version includes single-player support, achievements, Steam Cloud, trading cards, and Family Sharing. Steam metadata identifies full controller support, while keyboard and mouse controls are also available for players who prefer more direct aiming and inventory input.

The PC edition uses Denuvo Anti-tamper as third-party DRM. No separate competitive anti-cheat system or dedicated-server ecosystem is identified for the game, which matches its single-player design.

Steam lists interface and subtitle support for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Japanese. Full audio is listed for English, while the other supported languages are presented primarily through interface and subtitle localization.

Who Should Play Left Alive?

Left Alive is aimed at players who enjoy resource scarcity, tense third-person movement, improvised traps, military science fiction, and stories where saving civilians can matter as much as reaching the next objective. Front Mission fans may also appreciate the setting, Wanzer designs, and references to the wider universe.

It is less suitable for players seeking smooth cover-shooter combat, dependable stealth takedowns, deep character builds, or a conventional mech action game. The intentionally disadvantaged protagonists and limited supplies are central to the design, so patience and cautious experimentation matter more than mechanical dominance.

The poster art for the game looks weirdly familiar to something that Yoji Shinkawa would create for the Metal Gear franchise, I see this as an absolute win and motivator to play the game
