Game Description

STAR WARS Battlefront PC is a cinematic team-based science-fiction shooter from DICE and Electronic Arts, built around large ground battles, vehicle combat, iconic heroes, and objective-focused multiplayer. The current Steam listing still uses the original STAR WARS Battlefront name; the separate Classic edition is a different product, so PC players should check the edition carefully before buying.

The game is designed for players who want the atmosphere of the original trilogy more than a traditional story campaign. Its strongest moments come from joining a Rebel or Imperial force, capturing objectives, calling in powerful equipment, and suddenly taking control of a familiar Star Wars vehicle or hero.

Large-scale ground combat with a cinematic focus

Battlefront uses both first-person and third-person perspectives, letting players switch between an immersive blaster view and a wider character-focused camera. Infantry combat is accessible, but positioning still matters because open terrain, cover, vehicles, and objective routes create very different combat situations across each map.

The core loop is straightforward: choose a faction, enter a battle, complete the mode objective, collect power-ups or tokens, and use the battlefield to reach a stronger tactical position. The game emphasizes spectacle and immediate Star Wars identity rather than complex class builds or long-term character progression.

Ground troops fight with blasters, grenades, and specialized equipment, while pickups can provide access to turrets, heavy weapons, vehicles, and hero characters. These tools change the rhythm of a match, turning a standard infantry push into a sudden attack led by Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, or another recognizable figure.

Modes built around objectives, heroes, and vehicles

Walker Assault is the signature large-team mode. Rebels attack Imperial walkers while completing map objectives, and the Empire tries to stop the advance. The mode combines infantry firefights with AT-ST and AT-AT encounters, making it the clearest expression of Battlefront's cinematic battlefield design.

Supremacy centers on controlling command posts and pushing the opposing team back across a broad map. Other multiplayer options focus on shorter engagements, including Blast for close-range team combat, Drop Zone for contested escape pods, Cargo for objective-based raids, and Droid Run for moving control points.

Players who want character-focused combat can enter Heroes vs Villains or Hero Hunt. These modes change the balance of a match by placing lightsaber users and major Star Wars characters at the center of the action, while Fighter Squadron shifts the battlefield into aerial combat with starfighters.

Offline players are not limited to a tutorial. The game includes Missions with training, survival, battle, and hero-focused scenarios that can be played alone or with a co-op partner on supported platforms. These activities provide repeatable challenges, but they are not a conventional narrative campaign with a connected story.

Progression, power-ups, and faction identity

Battlefront's progression is based on unlocking and improving combat options rather than building a role-playing character. Star Cards modify abilities and equipment, while blaster choices and hand-held tools help players shape a preferred playstyle within the game's compact loadout system.

Power-ups are one of the most important battlefield systems. A pickup may grant a temporary weapon, defensive ability, vehicle opportunity, or hero transformation, so map awareness can be as valuable as raw accuracy. Learning where these opportunities appear helps teams contest objectives instead of treating every match as a simple elimination contest.

The visual and audio design carries much of the game's identity. Hoth, Endor, Tatooine, Sullust, and other locations are built around recognisable Star Wars environments, with faction-specific vehicles, sound effects, and equipment reinforcing the difference between Rebel improvisation and Imperial military hardware.

Base game and expansion content

The Steam catalog includes the base game alongside Deluxe and Ultimate purchase options. The Ultimate Edition combines the Deluxe Edition with the Season Pass, which covers four expansion packs and related bonus content.

The paid expansions add maps, modes, weapons, heroes, vehicles, and other themed content. The major packages are Outer Rim, Bespin, Death Star, and Rogue One: Scarif. Players comparing editions should confirm whether the Season Pass is included, because the base purchase and the expanded package do not represent the same content scope.

This is a premium game rather than a free-to-play service. The PC storefront also lists EA Play access and requires an EA Account, so ownership on Steam still involves EA's account and launcher ecosystem.

Who should play Battlefront on PC?

Battlefront suits players who want team-based Star Wars battles, recognizable film locations, accessible shooting, and a mix of infantry, vehicles, heroes, and starfighter action. It is especially appealing when the goal is to recreate a particular battlefield fantasy rather than optimize a highly technical competitive shooter build.

It is less suitable for players looking for a deep single-player campaign, extensive weapon crafting, persistent class development, or a modern live-service progression structure. The offline Missions are useful for practice and co-op scenarios, but they do not replace a full story mode.

Players who prefer a more character-driven Star Wars adventure should look toward third-person Star Wars action adventures such as Star Wars Jedi Survivor. Battlefront is built around repeated battles and team objectives, not exploration, puzzles, or a character-led campaign.

PC features, launcher, and localization

The PC version supports keyboard and mouse play alongside gamepad input, with both first-person and third-person combat available during ground battles. Steam achievements and trading cards are included, while online access requires an EA Account and EA's PC software environment.

Steam lists 11 supported interface or audio combinations, including English, French, Italian, German, Arabic, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Latin American Spanish, Traditional Chinese, and Spanish from Spain. Full audio is available in a smaller subset of those languages, so players should distinguish interface support from voice support.

EA's PC license terms also describe online security technology that checks game files and system memory for unauthorized third-party programs. That matters for players comparing the game with offline-only releases, because online play is tied to the publisher's account, activation, and security systems.

Related Star Wars games on PC

Battlefront is the best fit for players who want ground warfare with vehicles and heroes. For a more focused cockpit experience, first-person Star Wars starfighter combat like Star Wars Squadrons concentrates on ship handling, energy management, and structured space battles rather than infantry objectives.

For cooperative exploration, puzzles, and lighter combat, family-friendly two-player Star Wars adventures such as LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga offer a very different structure. The comparison is useful because both games use famous locations and characters, but Battlefront is competitive and combat-focused while LEGO Star Wars emphasizes story levels, character abilities, collectibles, and shared-screen co-op.

STAR WARS Battlefront FAQ

Is STAR WARS Battlefront still the current Steam name?

Yes. The modern Steam listing retains the name STAR WARS Battlefront. The Classic edition appears separately, so the two PC products should not be treated as a rebrand of one another.

Does Battlefront have a single-player campaign?

No traditional connected campaign is included. Solo players can use Missions, training scenarios, survival activities, and AI-supported battle content, while the main design remains focused on multiplayer matches.

Does the PC version support first-person and third-person play?

Yes. Ground soldiers can switch between first-person and third-person views. Vehicles and hero gameplay use their own presentation and control styles.

Does Battlefront include co-op?

Co-op is available through supported Missions and specific offline or local scenarios. It should not be confused with a full cooperative story campaign, because the game is structured around individual combat challenges and competitive multiplayer modes.

What is included in the Ultimate Edition?

The Ultimate Edition includes the Deluxe Edition and Season Pass content. The Season Pass adds four expansion packs: Outer Rim, Bespin, Death Star, and Rogue One: Scarif.

Does Battlefront require an EA Account on PC?

Yes. The Steam version requires an EA Account and EA online activation, even when purchased through Steam. Online play also depends on the publisher's authentication and security services.

Who is Battlefront best for?

It is best for players who want accessible Star Wars shooting with vehicles, heroes, objective modes, and large team battles. Players seeking a deep campaign or extensive offline progression should choose a different Star Wars PC game.

Since I've never played this Star Wars and I would like to get it back, I would like to know if it has a campaign like Star Wars Battlefront 2 because from what I know it should only be multiplayer
