Game Description

Double Dragon Revive PC is a modern 3D belt-scroll beat ’em up developed by YUKE’S and published by Arc System Works. The current Steam and Epic storefront branding remains Double Dragon Revive; no verified rebrand or replacement edition was found. It rebuilds the Lee brothers’ arcade formula around freer movement, character-specific attacks, environmental hazards, and two-player online or local co-op.

A More Free-Form Beat ’Em Up

Double Dragon Revive keeps the familiar horizontal progression of a classic brawler, but its combat is not limited to simple four-direction movement. Billy and Jimmy Lee move through modern 3D stages with parkour actions, swinging jumps, wall interactions, and wider opportunities to reposition around enemies.

The basic loop is direct: advance through a stage, read enemy behavior, use attacks and objects to create openings, then push toward the next encounter or boss. The game expects more than repeated light attacks. Attack timing, spacing, grabs, stage positioning, and weapon use all matter when several enemy types surround you.

Standard strikes can become different attacks depending on the situation. Hitting an enemy near a wall can trigger a Wall Strike, while a grab lets you punch, kick, throw, or slam an opponent into the environment. These context-sensitive actions give the brawling system a more deliberate feel than a purely button-mashing arcade revival.

Combat Systems That Reward Adaptation

Each playable character has a Unique Attack with its own properties. Some attacks can inflict elemental damage or launch enemies in a particular direction, so the best move depends on the enemy position and the surrounding stage. The roster is built around recognizable Double Dragon characters while giving each fighter a distinct combat identity.

Hyper Blow provides an armored option for fighting through pressure. Its aerial version sends the character rapidly downward and can create a shock wave when performed from sufficient height. Combining wall jumps, elevated movement, and aerial attacks lets skilled players turn vertical space into part of their offense.

The most important defensive interaction is Critical Assault. Certain enemy attacks create a short counter window, indicated by a blue glow. Responding with the correct move stuns the enemy and builds the Dragon Orb Gauge more quickly. This system encourages players to learn attack patterns instead of relying on constant evasion.

The Dragon Orb Gauge fills through effective play, particularly sustained combos without taking damage, weapon integration, environmental interactions, and successful Critical Assaults. Spending the full gauge activates a Finishing Blow, giving players a powerful payoff for maintaining control of an encounter.

Weapons, Hazards, and Stage Interaction

Weapons are scattered throughout the stages and can be picked up, thrown, or incorporated into attacks. The environment is equally important. Stages contain instant-kill gimmicks that can eliminate even durable enemies when opponents are knocked into them, making positioning a strategic resource rather than simple scenery.

This design creates a useful distinction between raw damage and smart crowd control. A strong enemy may be easier to defeat by grabbing and throwing it into a hazard, while a group can be disrupted with a wall attack, a thrown object, or a counter that creates enough space to recover.

Players looking for a more traditional side-scrolling brawler may find the comparison point in co-op arcade beat ’em ups like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, although Double Dragon Revive uses a 3D presentation and more movement-driven combat rather than pixel-art nostalgia.

Story Campaign and Extra Challenges

The story takes place after a nuclear war has reshaped society. Coastal colonies are controlled by powerful groups, while the Shadow Warriors dominate one settlement and exploit the divide between wealthy districts and the slums. Billy and Jimmy Lee become involved when the Sosetsuken dojo they inherit threatens the city’s wider schemes.

The campaign follows the Lee brothers through a sequence of urban and industrial locations populated by returning enemies and new threats. The story provides the structure for the main journey, but the lasting appeal comes from improving execution: learning boss patterns, finding safer routes through encounters, and building Dragon Orb Gauge efficiently.

Extra Mode adds shorter challenge-focused missions outside the main campaign. These scenarios are designed for replay and mastery rather than replacing the story with a separate open-ended progression system. Steam also lists score-attack elements and achievements for players who want additional goals after completing the main route.

There is no verified indication that the PC version is a free-to-play game or that it uses a season-pass structure. The commercial model is a paid base game with a separate Deluxe Edition and a listed Deluxe Edition Upgrade Kit.

Co-Op and PC Features

PC supports single-player, online co-op, and shared or split-screen co-op for up to two players. Steam also lists Remote Play Together, Steam Cloud, achievements, and Family Sharing. The PC version can cross-play with the Epic Games version.

Epic account linking is not required simply to play online with the Epic version, according to the current PC storefront information. Linking an Epic account is used for inviting players on the Epic version, so the practical setup depends on how you plan to start sessions with friends.

Full controller support is the sensible choice for this type of game, particularly when using grabs, counters, wall attacks, and movement abilities under pressure. Keyboard play is supported through the PC release, but a gamepad better matches the arcade-style control layout.

The PC storefront lists 53 Steam Achievements and a third-party EULA. The confirmed localization set includes English and Japanese audio, with interface and subtitle support for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

Base Game and Deluxe Edition

The standard PC edition contains the main game. The Digital Deluxe Edition adds digital artwork, a digital soundtrack, and additional character colors for Billy and Jimmy. The artwork and soundtrack are separate applications rather than gameplay expansions.

The storefront also lists Double Dragon Dodge Ball as a separate bonus application associated with preorder and certain physical collector products. It should not be treated as an additional mode inside the main Double Dragon Revive executable.

There is no verified roster of paid gameplay expansions beyond the listed Deluxe upgrade content. Players mainly choose between the base release and the Deluxe package according to whether they want the bonus digital materials and character colors.

Who Should Play Double Dragon Revive?

Double Dragon Revive is aimed at players who want a recognizable arcade brawler with modern 3D movement, deliberate counters, and reliable two-player support. It is a strong fit for fans of classic beat ’em ups who are willing to learn enemy responses instead of treating every fight as a damage race.

It is less suitable for players expecting a deep fighting-game roster, a large progression system, or a highly experimental roguelike structure. The main attraction is the combat loop and its replayable challenge layer, not character-stat management or an expansive open world.

For a more technical martial-arts alternative built around defense, precision, and third-person arenas, players seeking demanding kung-fu brawling like Sifu will find a different but relevant comparison. Sifu is more focused on individual mastery, while Double Dragon Revive emphasizes crowd control, weapons, hazards, and co-op coordination.

People were bad reviewing this game on YouTube and i was a little skeptical, but having been playing Double Dragon since the early 90s, i gotta say this game is probably one of the best in the series. Well done and thank you for posting.
