Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Gold Edition

Resident Evil VII: Biohazard is an action adventure game representing the seventh main installment in the popular series. Authors from Capcom's in-house studio have taken the key elements of survival horror, such as the heavy atmosphere, high level of difficulty and the always too low ammunition supply, but implemented them in a modern way, offering a first-person view and extensive exploration sections. Resident Evil VII: Biohazard was announced at E3 2016, where the change in perspective and emphasis on horror elements were warmly received by press and fans.

Storyline

The game is a clear departure from the canon of the series. Previous installments told the story of the fight of well-trained soldiers against monsters created by corporations devoid of any moral brakes. Resident Evil VII: Biohazard is different. This time we play as an ordinary, ordinary man named Ethan, who in search of his missing wife goes to a gloomy and seemingly abandoned mansion, located in the southern United States.

Another novelty is that, for the first time in the series' history, the script was written by a non-Japanese author, Richard Pearsey. This author has previously worked on the storylines for such games as F.E.A.R.: First Encounter Assault Recon or Spec Ops: The Line.

Gameplay

Resident Evil VII: Biohazard is a return to horror and survival genre. During the game we explore locations and fight with enemies; occasionally we have to face the logical puzzles. Particular places must be thoroughly searched, because it is often rewarded with valuable items. Combined with a high level of difficulty, it makes the player wander the maps very carefully, rushing through the stages may result in unexpected death or missing something important. The puzzles, on the other hand, mostly involve manipulating various mechanisms and allow you to take a breather for a while between events straight out of your worst nightmares.

Considerable changes have been made in the presentation of the action. The tradition of the series was the third-person perspective, but here we observe the events from the eyes of the protagonist. The game puts more emphasis on exploration than before, and the main character is clearly weaker, so the fight is a much more serious challenge. This does not mean, however, that we spend the campaign sneaking: clashes are frequent and very brutal. During battles we use a wide arsenal of various weapons, including pistols, a shotgun, a flamethrower, explosives and even a chainsaw.

Technical Issues

Resident Evil VII: Biohazard features attractive 3D visuals, rich in detail and effectively enhancing the atmosphere of terror. The game is built on the proprietary RE Engine, developed specifically for this project. The PC edition is by far the prettiest version of the game, as Capcom allowed PC players to set graphics options unavailable on consoles. The PlayStation 4 edition, on the other hand, offers support for virtual reality technology. The Nintendo Switch version, on the other hand, appeared over a year after the PC, PS4 and XOne releases, originally only in Japan. Its special feature is that it works on the basis of cloud streaming (hence the subtitle Cloud Version). This means that the game does not need to be downloaded in its entirety to a disk, but a fast Internet connection is required for comfortable play.
