Watch Dogs 2 Deluxe Edition

Watch Dogs 2 is a sequel created for users of PC, PS4 and XONE platforms, modelled on the Grand Theft Auto series, sandbox action game Watch Dogs from 2014, in which we played the role of a former criminal, using our hacking skills and a whole range of modern gadgets to control urban infrastructure and all kinds of communication devices. In accordance with the concept of the series, similar realities accompany us also in the second part of the series.

The game is once again the responsibility of Ubisoft's internal studios, led by the Ubisoft Montreal team, which has created such popular series as Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell and the latest installments of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. Watch Dogs 2 was officially announced on June 8, 2016, which is just over two years after the release of the original. The game was released on November 15 on the major eighth-generation consoles, and on November 29 on PC.

Storyline

In comparison to the serious and rather grim plot of the first Watch Dogs, the second part of the series approaches the subject at a more relaxed level. The action of the game was moved to a completely new city, which is San Francisco, and during the game we play as Marcus Holloway, a member of a local hacker group called Dedsec. Its members aim not only to fight against the Central Operating System (ctOS), but most of all... have fun. Thanks to this, the gameplay in Watch Dogs 2 is characterized by a much lighter atmosphere than its predecessor, in which we watched the game world through the eyes of a grim avenger.

Mechanics

General assumptions of the gameplay in Watch Dogs 2 have not changed. We get again an open-world, third-person action game, which in terms of mechanics is quite reminiscent of the mentioned Grand Theft Auto series. However, the main element distinguishing Watch Dogs series from the competition is the ability to hack the environment using a variety of gadgets and this aspect of gameplay has been quite clearly developed in the sequel. During the game we can manipulate both vehicles and other elements of the environment in a greater number of ways. Apart from that, there is a possibility of so called mass hacking which allows us to take control over many devices at once (e.g. smartphones of all passers-by).

In Watch Dogs 2 Marcus Holloway has a few brand new toys at his disposal, such as quadcopter (flying drone) used mainly for reconnaissance, and Jumper, which is a remote-controlled vehicle that allows hacking elements requiring physical interaction. Additionally, weapons in the game are created using a 3D printer located at Dedsec's headquarters. The developers have added even more freedom in completing story quests - depending on the player's preference, they can be completed in several ways (e.g. by sneaking or engaging in open combat). The car driving model has been changed as well as the character's way of moving, who is no stranger to the impressive art of parkour.

Game modes

The key element of Watch Dogs 2 released on PC, PS4 and XONE is of course the extensive single player campaign, in which in addition to missions related to the main plot, players can participate in a whole bunch of side activities. In the game, however, there is also a multiplayer option, in accordance with the latest trends integrated with the single player mode. Thanks to this, even during the campaign we can join the game with friends and at any time undertake numerous additional activities together, allowing us to play in co-op or competitive mode.

Technical issues

Compared to its predecessor released over two years earlier, Watch Dogs 2 was created from the beginning with the newest PCs and eighth-generation consoles in mind, which allowed the developers to spread their wings in terms of visuals. As a result, the graphics have been greatly improved and the open world of San Francisco feels even more alive. The artificial intelligence of the NPCs has also been improved and they are able to interact with each other in more complex ways.
