Final Fantasy V - Job System and Combat

Twenty-two jobs. That's what makes this game tick. You start as a freelancer, but soon you're switching between Knight, Black Mage, Ninja, and even Mime. Mix and match abilities across jobs - it's deep. I died. A lot. Until I figured out that a Blue Mage with White Magic backup can carry you through most of the game.

The turn-based combat is classic ATB. Wait for your bar to fill, pick your move, watch the fireworks. Sometimes you just stand there and stare at the spell animations. Nobuo Uematsu's score helps with that. The story? Exdeath wants to rule everything. Your party of four - Bartz, Lenna, Galuf, Faris - each has their own baggage. Galuf forgetting who he is hits harder than you'd expect.

This is a game for people who love tinkering with party setups. If you enjoyed messing with jobs in Final Fantasy VI, you'll find even more freedom here. Final Fantasy IX also offers similar charm. Final Fantasy V doesn't care if you're new or a veteran - it just works.
