Game Description

Warhammer: Chaosbane Deluxe Edition is a PC isometric action RPG set in the Warhammer Fantasy Battles world. The Deluxe label is now a legacy edition name: current storefronts use Warhammer: Chaosbane for the base game and Warhammer: Chaosbane Slayer Edition for the expanded package with the Tomb Kings content, Witch Hunter class, and additional bonus packs.

Developed by Eko Software and published by Nacon, Chaosbane focuses on fast top-down combat, class-based abilities, equipment upgrades, and repeatable dungeon activity. It is built for solo play but places unusual emphasis on four-player local and online co-op, including shared-screen play and Steam Remote Play Together.

Old World combat from an isometric perspective

The core loop is familiar to action-RPG players: choose a hero, enter a mission, cut through Chaos forces, collect equipment, improve your skills, and return to harder content. Combat takes place from a fixed top-down isometric camera, giving you a clear view of enemy groups, hazards, projectiles, and the space needed to position your character.

Each class has its own equipment profile, skill selection, resource behavior, and battlefield role. The original roster includes the Empire Soldier, High Elf Mage, Dwarf Slayer, Wood Elf Scout, and Dwarf Engineer, while the Witch Hunter is part of the expanded Slayer Edition content. The result is a six-class lineup with meaningful differences between close-range defense, ranged damage, crowd control, traps, and mobility.

Chaosbane gives characters access to more than 180 skills across the full roster. You can change active abilities and supporting choices to adapt a build rather than being locked into one combat pattern from the moment a character is created.

The action is deliberately compact and direct. Missions send you through recognizable Old World locations such as Nuln and Praag, where enemy packs, elites, environmental hazards, and boss encounters provide the main rhythm. Players looking for a slower tactical RPG or a large open world should look elsewhere; Chaosbane is structured around combat arenas, objectives, loot, and repeat runs.

Builds, gods, and endgame modes

Equipment progression is tied to the usual action-RPG rewards: weapons, armor, rings, amulets, fragments, and class-focused bonuses. Gear rarity tiers and heroic equipment give repeat players reasons to revisit missions, while fragments and gold support further item improvement.

A distinctive part of the progression system is the God Skill Tree. This system adds passive and active abilities associated with a Chaos god, allowing players to shape a character beyond the standard class skill layout. The choice matters most when building around a specific role, such as sustained melee damage, ranged control, defensive support, or area attacks.

Chaosbane also includes several activities beyond its story campaign. Boss Rush centers on repeat battles against major enemies, while Relic Hunt and expedition-style activities provide additional dungeon runs with changing threats and reward targets.

The free Invasion update added a progression tree with more than 100 nodes, modifiers linked to the Chaos gods, corruption effects, unlockable passive skills, rings, and a separate rank system. This gives the post-campaign loop more structure than simply repeating the main story at higher difficulty.

Difficulty options extend through multiple Chaos levels, and later progression includes stronger equipment tiers and additional character development after the normal level cap. That makes the game more suitable for players who enjoy optimizing a build than for players who only want to finish the campaign once.

What the expanded edition includes

The current Slayer Edition is the important storefront comparison for anyone searching for the older Deluxe Edition. It combines the base game with the Tomb Kings expansion, the Witch Hunter class, and a collection of additional content packs.

The Tomb Kings content adds a separate story setting in the Land of the Dead, with new enemies, missions, and campaign material. The Witch Hunter expands the playable roster with a mobile human fighter designed around ranged and close-combat options.

Bonus content includes cosmetic pets, emote packs, headgear, gold and experience boosts, fragment bonuses, the Gods Pack, the Pet Pack 2 content, and the Skulls Slayer pack. On Steam, the current Slayer Edition bundle is presented as a collection around the base game and its individual add-ons, while GOG sells a dedicated Slayer Edition product.

This is not a free-to-play game. The base game is a paid product, and the expanded edition is a paid package. Some additions are cosmetic or convenience-focused, while the Tomb Kings expansion and Witch Hunter represent the most substantial gameplay additions.

Who should play Chaosbane on PC?

Chaosbane is a good fit for players who want a straightforward Warhammer hack-and-slash with recognizable factions, quick missions, and a party-friendly structure. It does not require detailed knowledge of the tabletop setting, so newcomers can follow the campaign without first learning the wider history of the Old World.

The strongest audience is a group of friends that wants local couch co-op or online multiplayer without committing to a long competitive game. Class combinations are useful in a party, and the ability to mix local and online players makes the co-op format more flexible than many PC action RPGs.

Solo players can still complete the campaign and pursue endgame modes, but the design is more convincing when several classes cover each other’s weaknesses. Players who want highly reactive combat, very deep item crafting, or a constantly evolving seasonal ecosystem may find the systems narrower than those in larger genre leaders.

For a darker fantasy loot hunt with more extensive dual-class planning and faction systems, isometric dark-fantasy action RPGs such as Grim Dawn offer a broader character-building sandbox. Chaosbane is the more direct choice when the Warhammer setting and four-player local play are the priority.

PC features, multiplayer, and localization

The Steam version supports single-player, online co-op, shared/split-screen co-op, Steam Cloud, achievements, and Remote Play Together. Steam also lists a free 4K texture add-on, giving the PC version a visual enhancement option without treating it as a separate game edition.

Local multiplayer is a practical part of the PC package rather than a token feature. Up to four players can play together locally, and online sessions support the same maximum party size. Cross-play between different storefronts or console families is not a feature to assume.

GOG offers a DRM-free version that can be installed through an offline installer without GOG Galaxy. Galaxy remains relevant for online multiplayer on GOG, and the storefront notes that multiplayer is limited to GOG users rather than shared across platforms.

English includes full audio and text support. The PC listings also provide interface and subtitle localization for French, Italian, German, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian.

Players comparing it with another dark action RPG can also consider fast-paced isometric co-op adventures like Victor Vran, although Victor Vran uses a more flexible weapon-driven character model instead of Chaosbane’s fixed class roster.

Warhammer: Chaosbane FAQ

What does Warhammer: Chaosbane Slayer Edition include?

It includes the base game, the Tomb Kings expansion, the Witch Hunter class, and multiple bonus packs covering cosmetics, pets, emotes, boosts, fragments, god-related content, headgear, and additional themed items.

The expanded version has six classes: Empire Soldier, High Elf Mage, Dwarf Slayer, Wood Elf Scout, Dwarf Engineer, and Witch Hunter. The first five cover the original and free-added roster, while Witch Hunter is tied to the expanded content.
