Game Description
Staxel is a first-person PC farming and village-life sandbox built around restoring a neglected homestead, helping eccentric residents, and reshaping a voxel-based world. The current Steam and GOG storefronts still list the game as Staxel rather than using a replacement brand. Steam also includes an optional Staxel CE client, a separate edition path with revised controls, interface changes, and broader platform support.
Farming, building, and village life
Staxel starts with a run-down farmhouse and overgrown land that gradually becomes your personal project. The main loop combines crop cultivation, animal care, resource gathering, construction, shopping, and relationships with villagers. Instead of pushing players toward combat or survival meters, the game emphasizes routine, customization, and long-term improvement.
Daily work includes preparing fields, planting seeds, tending crops, caring for animals, and selling or processing what you produce. Outside the farm, you can fish, catch bugs, collect items, explore the surrounding island, and complete requests that help the village develop. Collections and hobbies add optional goals for players who want more structure than farming alone provides.
The camera is primarily first person, which makes building and decorating feel direct. You can place furniture, alter terrain, construct functional buildings, and use a broad selection of voxel materials to give the farm or village a personal layout.
Construction and creative systems
Building is one of Staxel's clearest differences from conventional farming RPGs. The world is not just a backdrop for crops and dialogue. Its voxel construction tools let you remove, place, and rearrange environmental blocks, giving you control over the shape and appearance of your surroundings.
Construction projects are connected to village progression. Restoring or adding facilities can unlock new activities, services, and reasons to visit different parts of town. The result is less of a tightly scripted campaign and more of a project-based sandbox where players decide whether the next priority is a barn, a better home, a new production station, or a decorative build.
Staxel also supports Creative Mode for players who want to focus on construction without following the normal progression path. This makes the game suitable for both relaxed farming routines and larger architectural experiments.
Exploration, crafting, and progression
Exploration supports the farm rather than replacing it. Fishing, bug catching, gathering, and collections provide alternative activities when you want a break from fieldwork. Materials gathered around the island feed into crafting, construction, cooking, and other practical systems.
Cooking uses dedicated stations and recipes, with ingredients coming from farming, gathering, or shops. Prepared food can be more valuable than selling raw ingredients, so players can choose between quick income and a more involved production chain. The game also includes shops, catalogs, blueprints, quests, and village projects that gradually widen the range of available activities.
Progression is intentionally open-ended. There is no combat-focused class system or traditional dungeon campaign to complete. The strongest motivation comes from improving the farm, collecting items, expanding the settlement, customizing the player character, and deciding how much of the world to rebuild.
Multiplayer and PC features
Staxel supports online co-op as well as single-player play. Friends can share a farm, work on the same projects, or live as neighbors in the wider world. Multiplayer is designed around cooperation rather than competitive modes, so the practical appeal is dividing farm work, gathering resources together, and building a shared settlement.
Steam lists Steam Workshop, Steam Achievements, Trading Cards, and Family Sharing. The game also has an official modding system that can add tiles, villagers, clothing, hairstyles, items, recipes, translations, and other assets. Mod creation can use the Asset Manager or text-based files, while voxel editors are used for many custom models.
Steam provides the original Windows client and the optional Staxel CE launch path. The CE version adds a revised controller scheme, an overhauled interface, faster loading, smaller save files, and support for Windows, macOS, and Linux through the relevant client. It also changes some technical behavior, including the size limit of the world. Players who depend on mods should check which client and mod workflow they intend to use before starting a long-term save.
Controller support is documented for PC, and the game includes configurable control options. The storefront feature lists confirm single-player and online co-op, while no dedicated anti-cheat system is listed. GOG presents Staxel as DRM-free and playable without GOG Galaxy; Steam naturally uses the Steam client and its associated platform features.
Content model and editions
Staxel is sold as a paid base game rather than a free-to-play service. Current Steam and GOG listings do not present a season pass or a large paid expansion lineup. The main content comes from the base sandbox, village projects, farming systems, Creative Mode, co-op, Steam Workshop support, and community-made modifications.
The important edition distinction on PC is not a renamed storefront product but the choice between the original client and Staxel CE. Steam exposes both paths through the same game purchase, while GOG lists Staxel as its own DRM-free product. These editions should not be treated as a new official rebrand of the game; the storefront identity remains Staxel.
Who should play Staxel?
Staxel is a good fit for players who want relaxed farming, first-person building, open-ended decoration, and cooperative village projects. It is especially appealing if you enjoy setting your own goals, creating custom spaces, and alternating between productive chores and low-pressure exploration.
It is less suitable for players looking for demanding combat, a tightly paced narrative, deep relationship drama, or a heavily structured management simulation. The game rewards patience and experimentation more than optimization. Its strongest feature is the freedom to shape a farm and village, not a high-pressure survival challenge.
Players looking for a more relationship-focused farming RPG can compare its social and agricultural structure with prehistoric farming and community sims like Roots of Pacha. Those who prefer a more traditional life-simulation format may also find useful genre overlap in farm-and-town RPGs such as Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, although Staxel stands apart through its first-person voxel construction and Creative Mode.
Staxel FAQ
Is Staxel available under a different current name?
No. Current Steam and GOG storefronts list the game as Staxel. Staxel CE is an alternate client or edition path available through Steam, not a full storefront rebrand.
What is Staxel CE?
Staxel CE is a revised version of the PC game with a redesigned interface, updated controller handling, faster loading, smaller save files, and support for Windows, macOS, and Linux through the appropriate client. Steam provides it as an additional launch option alongside the original version.
Does Staxel have multiplayer?
Yes. Staxel supports online cooperative play. Players can share a farm or establish neighboring properties, making it possible to divide chores, gather materials, construct buildings, and develop a settlement together.
Does Staxel support mods?
Yes. Staxel includes official modding tools and Steam Workshop support. Mods can add or change items, tiles, villagers, clothing, hairstyles, recipes, translations, and other content. The original PC workflow has broader modding documentation than the CE client, so edition choice matters for players who plan to customize heavily.
Does Staxel include paid DLC or a season pass?
The current Steam and GOG storefront listings present Staxel as a paid standalone game and do not show a season pass or major paid expansion catalog. Its content model is centered on the base game, the CE client option on Steam, Workshop items, and community mods.
Which languages are supported on PC?
Language availability depends on the storefront. Steam lists interface support for English, French, German, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Dutch. GOG lists English plus additional text languages, including German, Spanish, French, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese.
