Each mission uses procedurally generated maps. No two feel the same. You tweak armor, speed, weapons on your ships. I died. A lot. When you upgrade your flagship with better shields and engines, the difference in combat is immediate and often means the difference between retreat and victory. The tech tree branches out into weird futuristic stuff. Honestly? I spent more time in the ship editor than in some fights.

Multiple victory paths exist - military, science, territory. Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth fans will feel at home with the 4X roots. Galactic Civilizations III offers similar depth.
