Game Description

Hotshot Racing PC is a third-person arcade racing game from Sumo Digital and Lucky Mountain Games, published by Curve Games. The current Steam listing still uses the original name, with no verified rebrand or replacement edition. Its focus is direct: brake-to-drift cornering, boost management, aggressive overtaking, and fast races through colorful retro-styled circuits.

This is not a realistic driving simulator or a story-led racing campaign. It is built around repeatable events, lap improvement, leaderboard chasing, and multiplayer competition, with enough specialized modes to give the package more variety than a standard arcade racer.

Brake-to-drift racing with a technical edge

The defining mechanic is brake-to-drift handling. Tapping the brake initiates a slide, allowing you to rotate the car into corners while continuing to steer through the turn. The system is easy to understand, but fast laps require precise timing: entering too early can waste speed, while exiting too late can send the car into trackside scenery.

Drifting charges boost, making cornering part of the game's resource loop rather than a purely defensive maneuver. You can also build boost through slipstreaming behind rival cars, then spend the stored energy to attack a straight, recover after a mistake, or complete a pass before the next bend.

The camera stays behind the vehicle and keeps the road readable at high speed. That perspective suits the game's emphasis on memorizing braking points, choosing a clean racing line, and reacting to traffic without the setup demands associated with simulation-focused racers.

Eight drivers and distinct vehicle roles

The roster includes Keiko, Xing, Mike, Alexa, Aston, Toshiro, Marcus, and Viktor. These characters provide the game's personality, while their available cars are organized around different performance priorities such as acceleration, top speed, drifting, and balanced handling.

Choosing a car is therefore a tactical decision rather than a cosmetic one. A drift-focused vehicle can be more forgiving on technical layouts, while a speed-oriented option rewards players who can preserve momentum and exploit long straights. The best choice depends on the circuit, the event rules, and how consistently you can control a slide.

There is no elaborate tuning garage that turns Hotshot Racing into a setup simulator. The progression is closer to an arcade roster challenge: learn each handling profile, complete events, and improve your ability to keep the car fast through every section of a course.

Grand Prix, Time Trial, and unusual race formats

Grand Prix provides the clearest structured solo competition. Cups group several races together, with results accumulated across the series instead of judged on one finish alone. Difficulty settings let the same events serve as an accessible introduction or a stricter test of consistency.

Time Trial removes the pack and focuses on execution. You can chase personal bests, compare racing lines against online leaderboard ghosts, and repeat individual circuits until braking, drifting, and boost usage become more efficient. This is the strongest part of the game for players who enjoy measurable lap-time improvement.

Single-race events expand beyond conventional competition. Cops and Robbers turns the field into two opposing groups: cops hunt robbers, while captured robbers switch sides. Drive or Explode raises the pressure by attaching a bomb to each car and increasing the minimum speed needed to stay alive.

The free Barrel Barrage mode adds another layer of vehicular combat. Explosive barrels create hazards and can be used against opponents, changing the usual priority from simply finding the fastest line to managing threats while maintaining speed.

Tracks, free content, and the actual package

The base game includes 16 racing circuits across coastal, jungle, alpine, and desert environments. The courses are designed around clear corners, long straights, jumps, and visual landmarks rather than realistic motorsport venues, which makes route recognition important during both solo and multiplayer races.

The Big Boss Bundle is free content rather than a paid season pass. It adds the Barrel Barrage mode and the Boss Level Grand Prix, which brings four additional circuits: 8 Ball Highway, Cargo Chaos, Frozen Freeway, and Surf City.

Steam also lists the official soundtrack as a separate optional purchase. The important gameplay distinction is that the core racing game and the free Big Boss Bundle contain the playable racing content; the soundtrack does not add cars, tracks, or modes.

Players comparing retro racers may also want the more route-focused structure of colorful arcade racing in Horizon Chase Turbo, although Hotshot Racing is more committed to three-dimensional drifting, boost timing, and direct pack competition.

Multiplayer and PC platform features

Hotshot Racing supports single-player, four-player split-screen, and eight-player online competition across its main race formats. Time Trial is the exception: it is a solo mode built around ghosts and leaderboard comparisons rather than head-to-head racing.

The Steam version includes Remote Play Together, shared or split-screen PvP, online co-op, Steam achievements, and full controller support. A gamepad is the natural fit for analog steering and brake-to-drift inputs, while keyboard play remains useful for players who prefer digital controls.

The current storefront presents Hotshot Racing as a Steam release and does not advertise a separate publisher launcher. Steam compatibility data also flags an active internet connection requirement for single-player gameplay, so it should not be treated as a guaranteed offline racer.

Steam lists interface and subtitle support for English, French, German, Spanish - Spain, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Simplified Chinese. Full audio is not listed for those languages, so the language support is primarily text and interface localization.

Who Hotshot Racing suits

Hotshot Racing is a good fit for players who want short arcade races, readable tracks, accessible drifting, and a clear route toward better lap times. It works particularly well for local multiplayer groups because the split-screen option gives the game an immediate couch-racing use case without requiring a dedicated simulation setup.

It also suits players who enjoy mastery loops. The appeal comes from learning how each car behaves, storing boost efficiently, cutting cleaner lines, and surviving unusual modes where speed and positioning matter more than traditional race etiquette.

It is less suitable for players seeking licensed motorsport, deep vehicle tuning, realistic damage, open-world exploration, or a narrative career. The game is intentionally compact and event-driven, with competition and replay value carrying more weight than long-form progression.

Similar arcade racers on PC

For a more physical arcade racer built around miniature vehicles, combat racing with remote-control cars in Re-Volt offers physics-driven collisions, weapons, and distinctive oversized environments instead of Hotshot Racing's clean circuit focus.

Players who prefer a stylish driving game with a stronger rally identity can look at minimalist rally racing like Art of Rally Deluxe Edition. Its stage-based handling and off-road surfaces demand different skills, but it shares Hotshot Racing's emphasis on learning routes and improving repeat attempts.

These games are not interchangeable. Hotshot Racing is the most direct choice when the priority is split-screen competition, brake-to-drift handling, boost chaining, and fast fictional circuits rather than rally stages or combat pickups.

Hotshot Racing FAQ

Is Hotshot Racing still the current PC name?

Yes. The current Steam storefront continues to list the game as Hotshot Racing. No verified official rename, definitive edition, or successor storefront listing replaces that name.

Is Hotshot Racing a simulation racer?

No. It is an arcade racing game with third-person driving, brake-to-drift controls, boost charging, slipstreaming, and fictional circuits. Vehicle roles affect handling, but the game does not center on realistic setup or motorsport simulation.

How many players can race together on PC?

The game supports up to four players in split-screen and up to eight players online for its multiplayer racing formats. Time Trial is single-player only and uses ghosts rather than live opponents.

What is included in the free Big Boss Bundle?

The free Big Boss Bundle adds Barrel Barrage and the Boss Level Grand Prix, including the 8 Ball Highway, Cargo Chaos, Frozen Freeway, and Surf City circuits.

Does Hotshot Racing support controllers?

Yes. The Steam listing marks the game with full controller support, and the control scheme is well suited to analog steering, braking, drifting, and boost activation. Steering-wheel support is not advertised as a core PC feature.

Does Hotshot Racing work completely offline?

Steam compatibility data currently flags an active internet connection requirement for single-player gameplay. Players who need a reliably offline racing game should account for that limitation before choosing the PC version.
