Game Description

Starship Troopers: Terran Command is a PC real-time strategy game set in the film universe, placing you in command of the Mobile Infantry during a campaign against the Arachnid threat. Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG currently list it under the same name, with no verified rebrand or replacement edition. Developed by The Artistocrats and published by Slitherine Ltd., it focuses on single-player tactical battles rather than competitive multiplayer.

Commanding the Mobile Infantry

Terran Command uses an isometric battlefield view with a zoomable, freely navigable camera. Missions are built around moving squads through hostile terrain, securing objectives, protecting civilians or installations, clearing Bug hives, and surviving scripted attacks. The campaign is not a conventional economy-first RTS where you expand across a large map and harvest several resources. Instead, it gives you controlled access to deployment platforms, bases, reinforcements, and battlefield infrastructure.

The central challenge is the imbalance between the Federation and the Arachnids. Bugs can attack in overwhelming numbers, while the Mobile Infantry must win through unit composition, timing, positioning, and the correct use of special abilities. Radio stations, bases, supply caches, and drop sites shape how quickly your forces can move and recover. A lost position can remove access to important unit types until it is captured again.

True Line of Sight and True Line of Fire make terrain more important than a simple health-bar comparison suggests. Elevation can improve firing positions, while walls, terrain, units, and battlefield obstacles can restrict attacks. Choke points are valuable, but they can also become traps if your squads block one another or lack a retreat route. The game rewards commanders who establish overlapping fields of fire instead of sending every unit directly toward the nearest Bug.

Battle tiers, elite abilities, and combined arms

Terran Command’s progression is organized through Battle Tiers. Deploying infrastructure advances your available technology level and unlocks additional Federation forces. The system gives each mission a controlled tactical arc: early forces may rely on Rifle Troopers, Engineers, Snipers, and Radio Operators, while later access can include Rocket Troopers, Mk II Troopers, E-Pulse Troopers, Fleet Liaison Officers, Marauders, and Powered Suit Troopers.

Units are not interchangeable. Rifle Troopers form the dependable core of many formations, Engineers repair structures and build defenses, Rocket Troopers handle armored targets, and Fleet Liaison Officers provide reinforcement drops and orbital fire support. The M-11 Marauder adds a heavy bipedal platform with different weapon configurations, including Howitzer, Flamethrower, and Rotary Cannon variants.

Veteran units gain experience and can unlock elite abilities that change how they perform in battle. These upgrades encourage you to reinforce damaged squads rather than immediately replace them. Reinforcement restores squad strength without erasing accumulated experience, creating a persistent mastery loop inside individual missions. Explosives, artillery, fire, and several special attacks can also cause friendly fire, so indiscriminate bombardment is not always the safest answer.

Campaign structure and replayable modes

The main campaign follows the Mobile Infantry on Kwalasha, a harsh mining world threatened by Arachnid infestations. Its missions use varied objectives instead of asking you to destroy an enemy base every time. You may need to hold a position, defend colonists, eliminate a particular enemy force, clear underground hives, or survive escalating Bug assaults.

Outside the campaign, the game includes a tutorial, standalone Special missions, and Challenge missions designed for more demanding tactical play. Completed campaign missions can be replayed at different difficulty levels. This makes the game better suited to players who enjoy refining a solution, improving unit preservation, and testing alternative battlegroup choices than to players seeking an open-ended sandbox.

Territory Mode adds a separate structure built around capturing and holding Territory Points. These points provide a steady flow of resources, turning map control into the main strategic objective. The mode includes three battlegroups: Ground Pounders in the base game, Hell Raisers through Raising Hell, and Peacekeepers through Urban Onslaught. The storefront listing currently identifies 27 Territory Mode maps across the base game and those two expansions.

Base game and paid content

The base game is a paid single-player RTS and is not presented as free-to-play. Its content includes the story campaign, the Ground Pounders battlegroup, the core Federation roster, Special and Challenge missions, and the base Territory Mode maps.

The current paid add-ons are Raising Hell, Urban Onslaught, and The Eradicators. Storefront bundles package the base game with these three expansions. The add-ons are separate purchases rather than cosmetic microtransaction packs, and the store listings describe them as additional campaign and gameplay content. Players comparing editions should check whether they are buying the base game alone or the complete bundle.

Who should play Terran Command?

This is a strong fit for PC players who want a single-player military RTS with a recognizable science-fiction setting, specialized squads, tactical objectives, and large Arachnid assaults. It is especially appealing if you enjoy learning enemy counters, protecting experienced units, and solving missions through positioning rather than relying on unrestricted production.

It is less suitable for players looking for traditional competitive RTS features, cooperative play, or a broad faction-versus-faction ladder. The Federation is the main playable force, and the game’s asymmetry is built around human tactical specialization against Bug numbers. Players who prefer freeform base construction may also find the deployment-platform system more constrained than the building model in a classic macro-focused RTS.

For a related horde-defense experience with a heavier emphasis on settlement construction and survival pressure, RTS survival games such as They Are Billions offer a useful comparison, although Terran Command is more mission-driven and military-focused.

PC features, controls, and storefront differences

The game is designed around keyboard-and-mouse control, with remappable commands, control groups, camera zoom, map panning, quick save, quick load, and hotkeys for common unit actions. Current Steam listings document Steam Cloud and Family Sharing, while Epic Games Store requires an Epic ID. GOG lists the game as DRM-free and supports an offline installer without requiring GOG Galaxy.

English is the full-audio language. Text and interface localization are available in English, French, German, Spanish from Spain, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Simplified Chinese. The PC presentation is built around tactical battlefield visibility, unit selection, and readable combat information rather than controller-first menus or a console-style interface.

The game also has a strong thematic connection to other licensed military strategy titles. Players interested in human resistance forces, battlefield positioning, and campaign-focused RTS design may find post-apocalyptic command games like Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance relevant, though that game uses a different setting, campaign structure, and combat emphasis.
