Game Description
Thymesia on PC is a fast third-person action RPG with soulslike combat, a plague-ridden dark-fantasy setting, and a combat system built around wound damage and stolen enemy abilities. The current Steam listing still uses the name Thymesia; there is no verified storefront rebrand or replacement edition. OverBorder Studio developed the game, while Team17 publishes it.
Combat built around wounds and recovery
Thymesia puts you behind the mask of Corvus, an amnesiac alchemist searching the fallen Kingdom of Hermes for the truth hidden in his memories. The perspective stays close behind the character, keeping enemy animations and attack timing central to every encounter.
The core loop is more precise than a conventional hack-and-slash system. Corvus attacks with his saber to create wounds on an enemy's health bar, but those wounds can recover if they are not pressured. His claw attack converts that temporary damage into lasting damage, so successful fights require you to alternate between fast saber strikes and well-timed claw attacks.
Enemy attacks also create an important distinction between ordinary damage and more dangerous critical attacks. Corvus can evade with dynamic dodges, interrupt certain threats with his feathers, or meet attacks directly through deflection. The result is an aggressive rhythm: keep attacking to prevent recovery, watch for openings, and avoid allowing a wounded enemy to reset the advantage.
Plague weapons give every encounter extra options
Thymesia's defining system is its plague weapon mechanic. Corvus can extract diseases from enemies and temporarily wield them as powerful attacks. The weapon is not simply a second permanent equipment slot; it is part of the game's identity, encouraging players to study what opponents use and turn those abilities against them.
Plague weapons consume energy, which makes resource control part of the combat decision. You can use them to add burst damage, disrupt an enemy, create distance, or cover a weakness in your current build. Skill shards allow selected plague weapons to become more effective, and later talents can support carrying or switching between more than one option.
Corvus also carries feather projectiles, which can interrupt enemy attacks and help manage threats from a distance. They are especially useful when an opponent is preparing a critical attack that cannot be handled safely with a normal dodge. Saber attacks, claws, feathers, plague weapons, dodges, and deflections all have distinct jobs, so button-mashing quickly becomes inefficient.
Talents, attributes, and replayable mastery
Progression uses memory shards to improve Corvus through three primary attributes: Strength, Vitality, and Plague. These choices affect the balance between saber damage, survivability, and claw-focused plague attacks, but the system remains flexible rather than locking the character into a permanent class.
Every level also contributes to the game's talent system. Talent categories cover Saber, Deflect, Dodge, Claw, Feather, and Strategies, allowing players to alter how Corvus behaves in combat. You can improve attack chains, change defensive timing, extend dodge options, increase claw effectiveness, or add broader bonuses that support a preferred playstyle.
Talents can be refunded, which is one of the most useful features for experimentation. A player struggling with a boss can shift toward stronger deflection or defensive options, while another run might emphasize plague damage, mobility, or aggressive saber chains. The game therefore rewards mastery of its systems more than collecting a large inventory of conventional weapons.
Areas, quests, and the memory-driven structure
Thymesia is a focused single-player campaign rather than an open-world RPG. The main journey moves through connected missions and replayable areas including the Sea of Trees, Royal Garden, and Hermes Fortress. Beacons provide recovery points and act as hubs for leveling, talent adjustments, and equipment preparation.
After reaching an area, players can return to it for additional objectives and sub-quests. These missions revisit familiar locations with different encounters, targets, and rewards, giving the compact campaign more room for exploration than a strictly linear boss route.
The story is assembled through Corvus' lost memories, environmental details, conversations, and discoveries scattered throughout Hermes. Team17 describes multiple endings as part of the game's replay value, so completing the campaign is only one part of the intended mastery loop. Revisiting missions, refining talents, collecting lore, and testing plague weapons are meaningful reasons to continue playing.
What the PC editions include
The standard PC purchase is the base game. Steam also lists a Deluxe Edition containing Thymesia, the digital artbook, and the original soundtrack. The storefront's Complete the Set bundle contains those same three items.
The additional Steam content is supplementary rather than a gameplay expansion. The artbook and soundtrack do not add new campaign areas, bosses, weapons, or multiplayer modes. There is no verified live-service structure, seasonal pass, or gameplay-focused DLC requirement attached to the current PC listing.
That makes the commercial model straightforward: the core experience is a paid single-player game, while the Deluxe Edition adds digital extras. Players choosing between editions should focus on whether they want the artbook and soundtrack, not on differences in combat content.
Who should play Thymesia?
Thymesia is a strong fit for PC players who want fast soulslike combat in a contained format. Its best ideas are mechanical: wound management, claw attacks, deflection, plague weapon theft, and talent respecs. Players who enjoy learning enemy patterns and improving through repeated attempts will find the combat loop more rewarding than the broader exploration.
It is less suitable for anyone looking for cooperative progression, a large open world, extensive conventional weapon categories, or a deep party-based RPG. Corvus is a fixed protagonist, and the build variety comes from attributes, talents, feathers, and plague weapons rather than character creation or a large loot economy.
For another dark action RPG built around demanding encounters and third-person exploration, Mortal Shell's body-swapping soulslike combat offers a useful comparison, although its hardened-shell mechanic creates a very different defensive rhythm.
PC controls, language, and platform support
The Steam version offers full controller support alongside keyboard-and-mouse controls. A controller suits the game's analog movement, attack timing, dodge direction, and deflection-focused combat, while keyboard and mouse remain available for players who prefer traditional PC input.
Steam identifies Thymesia as a single-player game with Steam Achievements and Family Sharing. There is no co-op campaign, online PvP, split-screen mode, or dedicated server toolkit. Because the game is designed around solo progression, it also has no competitive anti-cheat feature that players need to configure.
Interface and subtitle support covers English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Russian. The Steam language table does not list full audio localization, so players should expect the supported language options primarily through text and interface presentation.
Similar PC games
Players who want a darker science-fiction interpretation of the same checkpoint-driven action RPG formula can compare it with Hellpoint's space-station soulslike exploration. Hellpoint adds co-op and a more expansive equipment structure, while Thymesia is more focused on timing, wound control, and a fixed protagonist.
Thymesia also appeals to players who prefer a compact alternative to larger soulslike adventures. Its areas, sub-quests, and boss encounters are arranged around replay and mastery rather than a huge map, making it a practical choice for players who value a concentrated combat challenge.
Thymesia FAQ
Has Thymesia been renamed on PC?
No verified name change has been found. The current Steam listing continues to use Thymesia, with a standard edition, a Deluxe Edition, and a Complete the Set bundle.
Is Thymesia multiplayer or co-op?
No. Thymesia is a single-player action RPG with no online co-op, competitive multiplayer, or split-screen mode.
How does the plague weapon system work?
Corvus can extract diseases from enemies and use them as temporary plague weapons. These attacks consume energy, can be upgraded with skill shards, and provide additional combat options beyond the saber and claw.
What is the difference between saber damage and claw damage?
Saber attacks create wounds and temporary damage on enemies. The claw is used to convert that wounded health into lasting damage, so both weapons are essential to the combat loop.
Can talents and builds be changed?
Yes. The talent system covers saber attacks, deflection, dodging, claws, feathers, and general strategies, and talents can be refunded so players can test different builds.
Does the Deluxe Edition add gameplay content?
No. The Deluxe Edition includes the base game, a digital artbook, and the original soundtrack. The additional items do not add new missions, bosses, or combat systems.
