Rain World

Rain World is a challenging two-dimensional platformer with survival elements, in which players take on the role of a friendly and cat-like creature named Slugcat. The game was developed by just two people - the originator and chief programmer Joar Jakobsson and James Primate, responsible for the music, who has written tracks for several other independent productions, including Gnomoria.

Plot

The place of action is the Rain World (titled Rain World) - a hostile land, full of empty spaces and disabled quasi-machines. In addition, most of the time it is flooded with dense rains of destructive rain. For this reason, survival in this world is extremely difficult, and the animals that inhabit it spend the time of rainfall in hibernation, hidden in various nooks and crannies. However, during drier periods, these bizarre creatures come to the surface. Players take on the role of one of them - the Slugcat, a creature that is forced to get enough food to safely survive another period of hibernation. The problem is that creatures larger than the Slugcat have a similar plan. So we become both the hunter and the game.

Mechanics

The gameplay in Rain World consists of cautious wandering around the hostile world, climbing obstacles, avoiding dangers and, if necessary, fighting the enemies we encounter. Thus, traversing the levels we use not only Slugcat's natural agility and jumping ability, but also a primitive spear, allowing us to kill or stun dangerous monsters.

Game modes

Rain World offers single-player gameplay, with various cooperative modes for up to 4 players also available. We can play over the Internet or locally on a shared screen.

Technical issues

The graphic design, although simple and modeled on classic 16-bit games from years ago, makes a good impression, and the color palette well emphasizes the declining and post-industrial character of the world presented. The dry, electronic background music also fits well with the atmosphere of the production.
