Game Description
Crime Simulator is a first-person PC heist simulation built around risky break-ins, flexible tools, and a debt deadline. The main game is still sold under the name Crime Simulator, while the earlier Crime Simulator Prologue was renamed Crime Simulator: Playgrounds and moved from a free prologue model to a separate paid franchise entry. The two games should not be confused.
Rather than presenting crime as a quiet burglary puzzle alone, Crime Simulator mixes stealth, action, driving, hacking-style gadgets, and online co-op. Its strongest appeal is the way a carefully planned job can collapse into a noisy escape, forcing players to improvise with whatever tools and loot they have left.
How the heist loop works
The central loop starts at the hideout. You choose a target, prepare equipment, enter one of the game’s areas, steal valuable items, complete the job, and return before the quota or time pressure catches up with you. The larger goal is paying back the debt that secured your freedom.
Crime Simulator supports both quiet and aggressive approaches. Lockpicks help with secured entrances, while a crossbow can silently deal with guards or disable cameras. You can also use sleeping gas through air vents, scout with drones, restrain people with zip ties, scan for valuable loot, or abandon subtlety and rely on a baseball bat when the operation turns loud.
That variety makes each job a risk-management exercise. Stealth reduces attention, but it can require more preparation and careful movement. Brute force may solve an immediate obstacle, yet alarms, police response, damaged tools, and lost loot can make the payout much worse.
The game uses a first-person perspective, keeping interactions close to doors, windows, vents, security systems, vehicles, and individual loot items. It is not a traditional military shooter or a pure stealth simulator. The focus is on entering a target, taking enough value to justify the risk, and getting out alive.
Skills, abilities, and hideout progression
Successful jobs feed into character development. The full game includes more than 15 skills that improve how you operate, including carrying capacity, perception, and stealth-related advantages. These upgrades change which targets are practical and how much equipment you can bring into a mission.
The hideout is more than a menu between missions. Furniture provides concrete bonuses: a bed improves health, training equipment expands inventory capacity, and a treadmill improves sprinting. This creates a useful connection between stolen money and future heists, because every upgrade can make a later escape or heavier haul more manageable.
Later progression introduces a voucher machine and four special abilities. These abilities are limited-use advantages rather than permanent replacements for planning. One can call off police pressure, while others repair loot or tools and help stabilize a failing run.
The progression model is closer to a replayable roguelite grind than to a linear crime drama. You repeat jobs, learn security patterns, improve your loadout, and pursue better results. Players seeking a tightly authored campaign may find the mastery loop more important than the story itself.
Locations, missions, and pressure systems
The base game includes three distinct areas, each with different targets, security layouts, and loot opportunities. High-tech mansions create different problems from rougher neighborhoods, so the map selection is not just cosmetic. You need to adapt your equipment and route to the location.
Missions are structured around break-ins, dangerous jobs, and quota management. The pressure comes from a deadline attached to the debt: fail to earn enough in time and the run’s consequences become severe. That gives ordinary theft missions a clear strategic purpose instead of turning them into disconnected sandbox errands.
Scoring rewards more than simply leaving with a full bag. The game’s scoring system considers factors such as stealth and time spent, encouraging players to refine routes instead of treating every objective as a smash-and-grab. Free updates have also expanded the scoring and hideout systems without requiring the Ashen Creek add-on.
Players who prefer a more methodical first-person stealth routine may enjoy crime-focused stealth simulations like Crime Scene Cleaner, although Crime Simulator is more concerned with acquiring loot and escaping than cleaning evidence.
Base game, DLC, and current content model
Crime Simulator is a paid PC game rather than a free-to-play release. The standalone base game includes its core areas, heist progression, hideout upgrades, skills, abilities, solo mode, and online co-op.
The current paid expansion is Crime Simulator - Ashen Creek DLC. It adds a new neighborhood with more than nine break-in locations, new cars, pressure-floor traps, and targets such as a jewelry store and pharmacy. It also adds new hideout furnishings built around a more extravagant criminal headquarters.
Ashen Creek is separate from Crime Simulator: Playgrounds. Playgrounds began life as Crime Simulator Prologue, but the storefront identity changed and the product became a paid, chaotic spin-off focused on open free-roam areas, hideout takeovers, brawling, and over-the-top objectives. Owning Playgrounds is not the same as owning the main Crime Simulator campaign.
The main game and Ashen Creek are also offered together in a bundle, while a Complete Edition bundle combines the main game, Ashen Creek, and Playgrounds. Buyers should check whether they want the focused heist game, the chaotic spin-off, or both.
Solo play, co-op, and audience fit
Crime Simulator can be played solo or in online four-player co-op. The co-op structure supports coordinated break-ins, shared loot runs, divided responsibilities, and emergency improvisation when a guard or alarm ruins the original plan.
Solo players still receive the complete core loop, but the workload is less forgiving. Watching security, carrying tools, collecting loot, controlling alarms, and escaping police pressure all compete for your attention. The game is at its most naturally social when each player can specialize in a different part of the heist.
This is a good fit for PC players who enjoy short mission cycles, first-person interaction, flexible approaches, progression upgrades, and co-op chaos. It is less suitable for anyone expecting a realistic crime sandbox, a traditional competitive shooter, or a stealth game where remaining undetected is always the only correct solution.
The tone also matters. Crime Simulator treats criminal activity with dark humor and exaggerated situations rather than presenting a serious procedural thriller. Failed jobs can be frustrating, but the design expects experimentation and repeated attempts.
PC platform features and localization
The Steam version includes Steam Achievements, Steam Trading Cards, Steam Cloud, Steam Leaderboards, and Family Sharing. Steam also lists in-game chat and online interactivity, which supports the game’s co-op focus.
The supported language list covers English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Turkish. English has full audio support, while the other listed languages provide interface and subtitle localization.
There is no verified current rebrand for the main Crime Simulator storefront product. The naming confusion comes from the related Prologue product becoming Crime Simulator: Playgrounds, not from the primary game being renamed.
Similar games on PC
The closest comparison is the original Thief Simulator, but the two games emphasize different fantasies. Thief Simulator focuses on reconnaissance, residential burglary, and careful extraction, while Crime Simulator adds louder combat options, co-op coordination, quotas, and a more replay-oriented progression structure.
Players who enjoy hands-on job simulations with criminal themes may also look at first-person burglary sandboxes such as Thief Simulator. The shared foundation is entering protected spaces, choosing tools, prioritizing loot, and escaping before the situation becomes impossible.
For a law-enforcement contrast, first-person prison-management simulations like Prison Simulator reverse the role: instead of breaking rules to earn money, you enforce routines, search cells, confiscate contraband, and manage inmate disputes. The mechanical overlap is limited, but both games appeal to players who like tactile simulation tasks and dark workplace settings.
