Quarantine Zone: The Last Check drops you into a job that sounds simple until you actually do it: you stand at the border of a quarantine zone and you decide who gets in. It is a first-person simulation with action elements, set during a Project Zomboid outbreak. And yes, you are the last check.
What you do in Quarantine Zone: The Last Check
You play as a soldier stationed at a checkpoint on the edge of an evacuation zone. On one side, there is supposed to be safety. On the other, a city where the undead roam. Survivors line up, hoping you are in a good mood, or at least in a fair one.
Your core loop is inspection. You look at people up close, watch their behavior, and search for signs of infection - especially bites. You also deal with smuggling. It is not just about stopping a zombie. It is also about keeping forbidden items out, even when someone swears it is “for the kids”.
Tools, instincts, and the uncomfortable gaps between them
You are not guessing blindly. You get inspection gear like UV flashlights, thermometers, and handheld scanners. You use them to spot symptoms and inconsistencies. But the game makes it clear: tools are not infinite.
As days pass, you face limited test kits and limited inspection resources. That is where the tension creeps in. When you cannot test everyone the same way, you start leaning on your own eyes and your gut. Did that cough sound wrong? Is that sleeve hiding something? Are you being paranoid or careful?
Decisions at the checkpoint: admit, quarantine, or worse
Space at the checkpoint is limited. You cannot just let everyone through and hope for the best. You decide who goes to the living block, who gets quarantined for observation, and who is sent for additional screening. Sometimes the clean choice is not obvious, and sometimes it is obvious but still ugly.
- Screen survivors for infection and suspicious symptoms
- Catch contraband and forbidden items during inspection
- Route people to quarantine, further screening, or safety
- Make hard calls when capacity and tools run thin
There is also a grim, clinical side. If a quarantined survivor turns, you can keep them confined and harvest samples to gain new tools, staff XP, and long-term upgrades. You can also analyze unknown symptoms, but those tests are always fatal to the subject. You are basically choosing between protecting people and extracting knowledge. Do you play it merciful, or do you play it cold?
Holding the line when the zombies attack
Between inspections, you defend the facility. The checkpoint is not a quiet office. Hordes of undead can attack, and you respond with weapons, including a rotating turret. The tone shifts from paperwork-style pressure to direct action - still in first person, still with consequences, much like surviving the The Last Stand Aftermath.
When alarms go off, you can also pilot armed drones to stop infected from breaching the compound. It is a different kind of stress. Less reading faces, more watching corridors and timing your response.
Resource management that actually matters
You are also responsible for keeping the camp running as the survivor population grows. That means essentials like power, food, and medicine. Manage your expanding base well and you unlock more resources, better tools, and weapon upgrades. Mess it up and your “perfect” inspection routine starts falling apart because the whole place is starving, underpowered, or both.
Is Quarantine Zone: The Last Check your kind of game?
If you like the idea of a Papers, Please-inspired inspection loop, but you also want moments where everything goes loud and you have to defend your post, this setup makes sense. You are constantly balancing precision and speed, compassion and caution, and limited resources against rising chaos. And when you mess up, it is not just a failed task - it is the infection getting inside.
In the end, Quarantine Zone: The Last Check is about being the gatekeeper in a zombie apocalypse. You do not save the world with speeches. You save it by noticing the bite someone tried to hide.
