It is the fourth main entry in a series that started back in 1996, and it follows Tennis Elbow 2013. The focus here is realism, with completely reworked ball, strike, and player physics - but you are not thrown into the deep end with no floaties.

What you actually do in Tennis Elbow 4

You step onto the court and play singles or doubles matches. That sounds simple, until you realize how much of the match is in your head. You read the trajectory, decide early, and commit to a strike. Go safe cross-court? Try an acceleration down the line? Toss in a drop shot when your opponent is stuck behind the baseline? Or lift a topspin lob and hope you judged the spacing right? Tennis is a game of choices, and TE4 makes you live with them.

Reworked physics and shot variety

The ball physics have been significantly redesigned, and it changes how rallies breathe. You are asked to think tactically, react quickly, and keep your eye sharp. If you enjoy the little mind games - the moment you notice your opponent leaning one way - you will have room to express that.

You also play on different court surfaces, each with its own rebound. That means your timing and expectations shift from venue to venue. The game includes 9 surfaces:

If you are still getting comfortable, you can use a visual help system that assists with aiming and positioning. And if you want the full sim challenge, you can turn those options off whenever it suits you. No drama. Just you, the ball, and your decisions.

World Tour and long-term play

If you want more than quick matches, TE4 includes a very large World Tour structure. You can move through seasons with a full ranking system, playing across more than 400 tournaments per year and facing a pool of 3500+ players evolving over decades. The timeline spans from 1973 (men) and 1983 (women) to 2042. You start low and work upward - juniors to pro events - in both singles and doubles. It is basically your “one more tournament” trap.

Multiplayer: online, LAN, and split-screen

You can play alone or with others. Multiplayer works via Internet, local network (LAN), or split-screen on the same machine. Doubles can be played with 4 human players on 1 computer, or on 2 computers with 2 players on each, via LAN or Internet - but not on four separate computers.

Online play uses peer-to-peer (P2P) connections with no relay server. If you are behind CGNAT or cannot forward a UDP port or use UPnP on your router, you will not be able to host a match. You should still be able to join someone else’s host, though. It is worth knowing before you invite friends and then spend the evening troubleshooting.

Match settings and viewing

You can set matches to 1 to 6 games per set, and play best of 1, 3, or 5 sets. There are also 7 camera modes, so you can pick what helps your timing and spacing the most.

Commentary, modes, and mods

Matches are commented by Darren Kilfara, a former Tennis TV commentator. The game also includes the Country Cup. And if you like tweaking games, TE4 is modding-friendly, with mods already available on Mana Games’ forums.
