Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition is a refreshed and improved version of Age of Empires III, the third installment of the bestselling real-time strategy series, which debuted in 2005. The described production is the work of Forgotten Empires studio, known so far mainly from remasters of the first and second part of the series.

Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition consists of all the content of the base game (thanks to which players can take part in the conquest of America) and two official expansions, namely The WarChiefs (dedicated to the Iroquois, Sioux and Aztecs) and The Asian Dynasties (taking us on a journey to the historical Far East).

Mechanics

While the gameplay scheme remains unchanged compared to the original, Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition released for the PC platform clearly differs in terms of mechanics from the earlier instalments of the series, which were also rejuvenated by the Forgotten Empires studio. During the struggles we once again have to manage our settlement, which entails the necessity of acquiring resources, constructing new buildings or exploring darker parts of the map and leading the nation under our command through consecutive epochs. In the game, however, there are so-called mother cities, over which we don't have any control - we can supply ourselves with various goods.

An important role is also played by fighting with the enemy forces - we send to the battle both infantry and horse formations and siege machines, ending with powerful artillery. It is worth noting that each faction is differentiated in terms of the appearance of the buildings and individual advantages and disadvantages - they can also boast of unique units, as well as qualities that allow, for example, easier forming of alliances with other parties to the conflict.

In addition to the gameplay variants designed for solo players (story campaigns, random battles), Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition offers an extensive multiplayer mode.

Technical features

The visuals for Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition on the PC platform have been significantly improved compared to the original, although the changes introduced by the developers are not as spectacular as in the case of Age of Empires: Definitive Edition and Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. However, the developers managed to adapt it to the capabilities of modern computers and displays (the title can run in 4K resolution), as well as improve the user interface.
