Game Description

Dying Light 2 PC is a first-person open-world action RPG and survival horror game currently sold on PC as Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Reloaded Edition. Developed and published by Techland, it combines rooftop parkour, melee combat, scavenging, faction choices, and a dangerous day-night cycle in the post-apocalyptic city of Villedor.

Parkour, combat, and the Villedor survival loop

You play as Aiden Caldwell, a wandering Pilgrim searching for his sister Mia while moving between the remaining survivor settlements. The core loop is built around travelling through Villedor, accepting story and side quests, gathering resources, improving equipment, and deciding whether to confront threats directly or use the city itself as an escape route.

First-person parkour is the defining system. Aiden can vault over obstacles, climb buildings, slide through gaps, swing from ziplines, wall-run across selected surfaces, and leap between rooftops. Movement is not just transportation; it is how you reach objectives, flee infected at night, search abandoned locations, and create combat advantages from above.

Combat focuses on close-range weapons, environmental positioning, and improvised tools. Blunt and bladed weapons can be modified, while bows, explosives, traps, and later firearms expand the available approaches. Kicks, drop attacks, ledge interactions, and parkour abilities let players break encounters apart instead of standing still in a conventional melee exchange.

Day, night, and faction decisions

The day-night cycle changes how Villedor behaves. Daylight is generally more suitable for exploration, looting, and human encounters, while darkness increases the pressure from infected threats and makes abandoned interiors more dangerous. Night activities can offer valuable rewards, but staying out too long creates a riskier chase-and-escape loop.

Villedor is divided between competing survivor groups, including the Survivors and Peacekeepers. Through faction assignments, players can influence parts of the city by allocating facilities such as water towers and electrical stations. These decisions can add traversal aids, defensive equipment, or environmental changes to selected districts, although they do not transform the entire game into a fully reactive simulation.

The story uses dialogue choices and branching mission outcomes, with several endings and relationship consequences. The narrative structure is more about steering key situations and alliances than building a completely different campaign on every playthrough. Players who prefer the movement and combat sandbox will find the strongest replay value in exploration, side activities, challenges, and upgraded builds.

Progression, equipment, and post-launch systems

Aiden develops through separate combat and parkour skill trees. Combat skills improve attacks, takedowns, evasive options, and weapon handling, while parkour abilities add new ways to cross gaps, maintain momentum, and recover from mistakes. The progression system rewards players who alternate between fighting and movement rather than specializing in only one discipline.

Gear uses level-based statistics and can support different play styles, including tougher melee builds, ranged combat, parkour-focused movement, and night exploration. Crafting provides medicine, lockpicks, explosives, boosters, and other useful items. The game also includes New Game Plus, higher-level challenges, additional infected encounters, and a Nightmare difficulty option for players who want a more demanding mastery loop.

Later updates expanded the combat sandbox with firearms and additional activities. The official PC edition also includes community-facing content through the Dying Light Outpost ecosystem, including user-created maps and modifications associated with The Breach. These additions make the current product broader than the original launch package and are important when comparing older reviews with the present storefront version.

Reloaded Edition and paid content

The current PC storefront identity is Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Reloaded Edition, rather than a separate sequel with a new title. Steam and Epic both present Reloaded Edition as the active purchase name, while the underlying game remains Dying Light 2 Stay Human.

The Reloaded Edition includes the base game and the Bloody Ties story DLC. It also incorporates the game's major post-launch updates, including the firearms expansion and other free content added after launch. Cosmetic bundles, weapon packs, starter offers, and other optional add-ons remain separate purchases, so buyers should distinguish the complete Reloaded package from the wider DLC catalog.

The game is a paid product rather than a free-to-play release. It supports optional in-game purchases, but the main Villedor campaign, its progression systems, and online co-op are part of the paid game. The former planned second story expansion was ultimately replaced by the separate standalone game Dying Light: The Beast, so it should not be treated as included Dying Light 2 campaign content.

Who should play Dying Light 2 on PC?

Dying Light 2 is a strong fit for players who want an open city where movement is as important as combat. It suits fans of first-person melee action, rooftop exploration, zombie survival, loot progression, and cooperative story campaigns. Players who enjoy crossing a dangerous map by improvising routes rather than following roads will get the most from Villedor.

It is less suitable for anyone seeking a tightly focused horror game with scarce combat, a realistic survival simulation, or a deeply systemic faction RPG. The campaign includes choice-driven missions, but the main attraction is the physicality of parkour and the rhythm of scavenging, fighting, escaping, and upgrading.

For a different kind of open-city power fantasy, superpowered sandbox action games such as Prototype 2 offer comparable freedom of movement and large-scale urban combat, although Dying Light 2 is more grounded in survival tools, melee weapons, and cooperative exploration.

PC features, co-op, and localization

The PC version supports keyboard and mouse controls and full controller support. Steam lists single-player, online co-op, Steam Cloud, Steam Achievements, Remote Play on TV, Family Sharing, and Steam Trading Cards. Epic lists controller support, cloud saves, achievements, multiplayer, and co-op.

Online co-op supports up to four players, allowing the host and up to three other players to explore Villedor, complete missions, tackle challenges, and fight through infected zones together. There is no local split-screen mode. Co-op is online, and story progress follows the host's campaign structure, so players should coordinate whose save contains the missions they want to advance.

The Steam edition requires agreement to a third-party EULA, while the Epic version requires an Epic account. Neither storefront presents the PC release as a standalone DRM-free edition. Audio is available in English, French, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese, while interface and subtitle support covers a broader selection including Italian, Korean, Arabic, Czech, Traditional Chinese, Portuguese, and Turkish.

Similar PC games

Players primarily interested in large-scale cooperative zombie combat may also consider four-player horde shooters such as World War Z Aftermath. That game is more mission-focused and third-person, while Dying Light 2 emphasizes open-world traversal, first-person melee encounters, and a character-driven campaign.

For a lighter but still survival-focused comparison, cooperative zombie survival games like Welcome to ParadiZe shift the emphasis toward base building and controlling undead helpers. Dying Light 2 is much more movement-driven, with parkour routes and night escapes replacing its isometric construction focus.

Installing Dying Light 2 1.28.0 doesn't work, white screen then back to desktop! Same with Dying Light The Beast, all my other games are fine except these 2.

So I installed and tried my legit STEAM version which is the Dying Light 2 RELOADED, so it seems whatever they did in 1.28.0 is an issue related to AMD card owners I suspect. I get the same white screen and I dumped the log into to CoPilot AI and it replied with:

      Your log literally shows:

Adapter 0: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16192MB … AMD Crossfire detected with 2 GPU(s), memory size fixed: 8'192M
The game is overriding your VRAM to 8GB because it thinks you have two GPUs.

That alone is enough to crash the engine instantly.

Thanks for checking the legit Steam version too. Since the same white screen crash happens there, this does not look like an installer/repack issue. It looks like a problem between the latest Dying Light 2 / The Beast build and AMD RX 9070 XT drivers.

Your log is suspicious because the game detects AMD CrossFire with 2 GPUs and forces the VRAM to 8192 MB. That can easily crash the engine on startup.

        Please try this:

        1. Clean reinstall AMD drivers using DDU, then install the latest Adrenalin driver. If it still crashes, test one older driver version.
        2. Disable all overlays: AMD overlay, Steam overlay, Discord overlay, MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner, recording/instant replay.
        3. Reset the game graphics config by renaming/deleting:
          Documents\dying light 2\out\settings\video.scr
        4. Try forcing DX11 instead of DX12 in the config if possible.
        5. Disable Ray Tracing, Frame Generation and any GPU upscaling options before launching.
        6. Check AMD Adrenalin/BIOS and disable anything related to CrossFire, multi-GPU or integrated GPU. Also test with only one monitor connected.

If this still happens on both our version and the official Steam version, then it is almost certainly an AMD/Techland compatibility bug introduced with the latest update. In that case the best fix will be a game patch or AMD driver update.

Could you check the issue with the lack of sound in Dying Light 2 when using the PT-BR dubbing? It seems this problem occurs only in the PT-BR language. I believe some file might be corrupted. If there's no way to fix it, no problem; it's still possible to play with the English dubbing and Portuguese subtitles. I have a new graphics card and would love to play this game with my new card.
