You manage resources like wood and stone. Keep villagers fed or they leave. Honestly, I lost three times before I got the hang of it. The sieges are massive - hundreds of units clash at once.

Yeah, that happens. You think you're safe behind stone walls, then someone launches a cow over. A dead cow. It's weird but effective.
