Eldest Souls

Eldest Souls is a two-dimensional RPG, which with its gameplay model refers to the popular Dark Souls series from FromSoftware. The production is set in a dark fantasy world that is on the brink of destruction. It is the debut project of the developer Fallen Flag Studio. The publisher is CI Games (under the United Label publishing section).

Plot

Old Gods have been imprisoned for a long time. During their absence mankind built a great civilization. Unfortunately, just before their defeat, the gods cast a curse that began to ravage the world. Over time, the grasslands turned into deserts and the water dried up. Armies fell and human kingdoms were in chaos. A lone warrior sets out for the Citadel, where the gods are imprisoned, to eradicate them once and for all.

Mechanics

Eldest Souls is a fairly typical, two-dimensional RPG, in which the action is observed from above (from the so-called top-down perspective). The production belongs to the soulslike subgenre. This means that an important element of the gameplay are clashes with powerful bosses, and additionally the production poses a big challenge for the player.

The game is based on the exploration of the Citadel - a huge labyrinth in which the Old Gods are imprisoned. Wandering around, we talk to encountered NPCs and - above all - eliminate the encountered deities. Defeating them gives us special powers, which we can use in subsequent battles. We also perform various additional tasks, thanks to which we polish our hero's skills (and our own) and gain equipment.

In Eldest Souls we can play only alone.

Technical issues

Eldest Souls has a pleasant, two-dimensional graphic design, which was prepared in pixel art style, so it refers to the classic 2D games from the 90s. Noteworthy is the interesting artistic style, despite the relatively modest tools that well reflect the atmosphere of the dark, fantastic world. The lighting effects accompanying the various attacks and spells are also attractive.
