Game Description

Dice Legacy is a PC survival city builder with roguelike structure, real-time resource management, and a dice-placement system that turns your population into the main engine of every decision. The PC storefront name remains Dice Legacy. Dice Legacy: Definitive Edition is a separate console package rather than a replacement PC title, while PC players can access the original game, free content updates, and the paid Corrupted Fates expansion through the standard storefront editions.

A city builder where every worker is a die

Dice Legacy begins with a small settlement on a mysterious ringworld. Your ship has reached an uncharted continent, and survival depends on turning a handful of dice into a functioning society. The overhead presentation keeps the settlement, surrounding wilderness, resource nodes, and threats visible while you decide where to expand.

The central loop is built around rolling dice for actions. A die's visible face determines which job it can perform, so gathering wood, collecting stone, farming, researching technology, exploring, constructing buildings, and fighting all depend on the results available in your current pool.

That randomness is controlled rather than passive. You choose where to assign each die, when to reroll, and which results are worth preserving. The strongest decisions often come from using an imperfect roll efficiently instead of spending durability in search of a perfect one.

Every action feeds another part of the settlement. Resources unlock buildings, buildings improve production, production supports more dice, and a larger population creates additional food, health, happiness, and defense demands. The result is a compact resource-management strategy loop with very little room for waste.

Population, classes, and dice crafting

Your dice are not anonymous tokens. They represent citizens who can become specialized members of the settlement, including Peasants, Citizens, Merchants, Monks, Soldiers, and, through Corrupted Fates, Cultists.

Each class changes the way your economy works. Peasants provide a flexible foundation, Citizens support more advanced production, Merchants affect trade and wealth, Monks contribute to knowledge and religious systems, and Soldiers turn the settlement's workforce into a defensive force. Cultists introduce a darker set of sacrifices, policies, and powers.

Dice have to be kept supplied with food and treated when they become injured or sick. Winter can freeze them, combat can damage them, and repeated rerolls can reduce their usefulness. This makes dice durability a strategic resource rather than a minor status effect.

Progression extends beyond ordinary class upgrades. The game lets you forge dice together, empower individual faces, create Constructs, and carry selected improvements into later attempts through Ascension. These systems give repeated runs a sense of long-term experimentation without removing the importance of each new map.

Three different pressures shape each run

The original settlement mode, Escaping Fate, asks you to establish a realm, explore the ringworld, survive hostile attacks, and uncover what lies beyond the settlement. Expansion is never purely economic because The Others remain an active threat waiting beyond the mists.

Forging a Realm shifts the emphasis toward internal management. Your Council presents demands, and failure to satisfy the population can put your rule at risk. It is the clearest option for players who prefer economic planning and political pressure over a more direct focus on external enemies.

The Downfall, introduced through Corrupted Fates, reverses the perspective. Invaders are approaching, your society is weakened by corruption, and the objective is to build a galleon and escape. The mode uses sacrifice, Soul Tokens, Council pressure, and a race against time to create a different form of settlement crisis.

The game also includes multiple scenarios, difficulty settings, unlockable rulers, and variable starting conditions. Rather than offering one long campaign with a fixed development path, Dice Legacy is organized around repeatable scenario mastery.

Weather, winter, and the threat beyond the ring

Seasonal survival is one of the game's most important tests. Winter affects production and can freeze dice, forcing you to prepare food, medical supplies, warmth, and replacement workers before the cold arrives.

The later content updates add a broader weather system with phenomena that can alter a season's conditions. Weather is not just visual atmosphere; it changes the value of preparation and can disrupt an economy that seemed stable a moment earlier.

Exploration expands the map and reveals resources, ruins, settlements, and story elements, but it also stretches your defenses. Moving outward creates opportunities while exposing more of the realm to raids and logistical problems.

Combat is integrated into the settlement loop rather than presented as a separate battle screen. Soldiers and military buildings help repel The Others, but every defensive decision competes with the need for food, research, construction, and population growth.

PC editions, DLC, and storefront details

The current PC catalog keeps the base game under the name Dice Legacy on Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. No verified PC rebrand has replaced it. The console-only Definitive Edition bundles the original content, the three major updates known as Memories, Forging a Realm, and A Storm is Coming, plus Corrupted Fates.

On PC, the commercial structure is straightforward. The base game is a paid single-player title, while Corrupted Fates is the main gameplay expansion. The separate Deluxe Edition adds the original soundtrack rather than new mechanical content.

Corrupted Fates adds the Cultist class, a new ruler called the Vicar, six buildings, eleven technologies, twelve policies, seven Memories, Corrupted Policies, Revelations, Madness, and The Downfall mode. It is substantial enough to change how experienced players approach the settlement rather than functioning as a cosmetic add-on.

Steam and Epic versions use their respective storefront ecosystems. The GOG release is explicitly DRM-free and can be installed through an offline installer without requiring GOG Galaxy, although Galaxy remains optional for platform features such as synchronization.

The PC listings identify the game as single-player. There is no advertised online multiplayer, local co-op, split-screen mode, or competitive mode, and the PC storefront pages do not present an anti-cheat requirement.

Interface support covers English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Russian, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese, with the exact label varying slightly between storefront listings. The PC version is primarily designed for mouse and keyboard; current PC listings do not advertise native full controller support.

Who should play Dice Legacy?

Dice Legacy suits players who enjoy survival city building, worker-placement decisions, procedural maps, and strategy games where a poor early choice can create pressure much later. It rewards players who study systems, accept failed runs, and gradually improve their opening priorities.

It is particularly effective for players who want a city builder with a defined crisis structure rather than an unlimited sandbox. The settlement grows, but every new building also increases the number of systems that must be supplied and protected.

Players looking for relaxed decoration, direct character control, or uninterrupted economic play may find the game demanding. Even the more economic modes are built around scarcity, changing conditions, and consequences for neglecting the population.

For a more polished expedition-based city-building roguelike with persistent unlocks and seasonal settlement challenges, procedural survival city building like Against the Storm is a natural comparison, although it replaces Dice Legacy's individual dice workers with a broader population-management model.

Similar PC strategy games

Survival city builders such as Frostpunk share Dice Legacy's focus on cold, labor allocation, population pressure, and difficult preparation. Frostpunk is more strongly centered on laws, heat, and moral decisions, while Dice Legacy makes the worker itself a randomizable game piece.

Against the Storm is the closer structural comparison because both games use changing maps, repeated settlements, and long-term progression between attempts. Dice Legacy is more intimate and tactile: the key question is not only which building to construct, but which face appears on the die you need right now.

Dicey Dungeons shares the dice-driven identity but not the colony-management structure. Its focus is character builds and turn-based combat, whereas Dice Legacy uses dice to operate an entire settlement, economy, research tree, and defensive network.

That combination gives Dice Legacy a narrow but distinctive audience. It is not simply a city builder with random numbers layered on top; the dice determine who can work, what can be produced, and how much flexibility remains when the settlement comes under pressure.

Dice Legacy FAQ

Is Dice Legacy still the official PC name?

Yes. Current PC storefronts continue to list the game as Dice Legacy. Dice Legacy: Definitive Edition is a separate console package that bundles the original content, major updates, and Corrupted Fates.

Is Dice Legacy multiplayer or co-op?

No. The PC editions are single-player strategy games. There is no advertised online multiplayer, local co-op, split-screen, or player-versus-player mode.

What does Corrupted Fates add?

Corrupted Fates adds the Cultist dice class, the Vicar ruler, new buildings, technologies, policies, Memories, Revelations, Madness mechanics, and The Downfall mode, where you attempt to escape an invaded settlement.

Does the PC version support controllers?

The PC storefront listings do not advertise native full controller support. Dice Legacy is primarily presented as a mouse-and-keyboard strategy game, so players seeking a gamepad-first interface should not treat controller play as a core PC feature.

Does Dice Legacy have a campaign?

Its structure is based on scenarios, rulers, difficulty settings, procedural maps, and repeatable settlement runs rather than a conventional linear campaign. Winning and experimenting unlocks more ways to approach future attempts.

Is Dice Legacy DRM-free?

The answer depends on the storefront. The GOG edition is DRM-free and supports offline installation without GOG Galaxy, while Steam and Epic versions remain tied to their respective platform clients and services.
