Transience is a first-person shooter with stealth at its core, set in a near-future version of America. You step into the boots of Eli Reed - an “Accountant-for-hire” who normally keeps other people’s problems balanced. Only this time, you are the intended target. The game drops you into New Houston in the year 2056, where corporations have become the real power and war is good business. And you? You have to clear your name after landing on a red list for reasons you don’t even know yet. Like in Steel Seed, it captures that tense survival against overwhelming odds in a dystopian setting.

What you do in Transience

You play a single-player campaign built around missions. There are 9 missions across 9 hand-crafted environments, and you move through varied spaces that can take you from building interiors to the rooftops of skyscrapers. Your job is simple to say and messy to do: complete objectives, explore, and deal with enemies who would love to cash in on your bounty.

The feel aims for that gritty, early-2000s tactical vibe. Not in a nostalgic speech way - more like in pacing and attitude. You’re not just sprinting forward forever. You’re watching angles, listening, planning, then committing. It shares a similar deliberate pace with games like Hail to the Rainbow, emphasizing strategy over speed.

Stealth, shooting, and choosing your approach

Transience leans on the idea that a frontal assault is not always the smartest move. Sometimes you slip behind patrols, stick to shadows, or use ventilation shafts to get around problems instead of through them. Other times you take the direct route and force the situation. The point is: you decide how the objective gets done.

Maps are built for multi-approach play. You can stalk and pick targets off, run-and-gun down corridors, or blend both styles when plans fall apart (because they will). If you’ve ever told yourself “just one more clean room” and then everything goes loud - you get the idea.

Tools that support stealth

Your kit is not just guns. Eli wears the NNCG “Eclipse” suit, developed by NOVASKIN. It’s a modern combat undersuit designed for fast engagements and protection, and it also opens up a set of gadgets that push stealth play.

NWS weapon customization and stashes

Combat in Transience runs on a broad arsenal of firearms, but the standout is how you can reshape them. The game uses the NWS (New World Systems) customization framework, letting you swap core parts and attachments to transform how a weapon behaves. That’s not just cosmetic tinkering. It’s about adapting to what the mission is asking for.

Examples are straightforward and practical: you can take an SMG and rework it into an assault rifle, or push an assault rifle toward a DMR-style setup. You find new weapons and parts by locating stashes hidden around the environments, so exploration directly feeds your options in the next encounter.

The city backdrop matters. New Houston is a place where corporate influence is everywhere, government contracts drive industry, and “progress” is sold through propaganda. The world is moving toward digital currency and advanced tech, while the public gets half-truths and leftover promises. In the middle of that, Eli is running, digging for answers, and trying to figure out who put the bounty on him - and why.

The story is delivered with fully voiced dialogue, and it follows Eli’s journey through the campaign as he tries to pull the thread without getting cut by it.
