Sniper Elite 5 is a third-person action shooter with stealth DNA, made by Rebellion. You step into occupied France in 1944 and play as Karl Fairburne. Your job starts on the Brittany coast: weaken the German Atlantic Wall. Then, as it always goes in wartime stories, you stumble onto something bigger - a secret Nazi plan called Operation Kraken that could flip the war on its head.

What you actually do in Sniper Elite 5

You play through a series of missions. Each one takes place on a large map with an open structure. You get objectives, but the game doesn’t lock you into one “correct” solution. Want to crawl through grass, tag targets, and ghost your way to the exit? Do it. Prefer long-range overwatch with a sniper rifle, waiting for the perfect moment? That works too. Or you can go direct and push in with firearms, accepting the noise and the risk.

This freedom is the core loop: scout, plan, execute, improvise when things go wrong (because they will). You’re not just chasing a marker. You’re choosing how the mission unfolds. Like in earlier games such as Sniper Elite 4 Deluxe Edition.

Sniping, stealth, and the famous killcam

Sniper Elite is known for its killcam, and Sniper Elite 5 brings it back with more realism. When you land a good hit, the camera can show the damage your shot does. It’s brutal, detailed, and very “series-defining.” The twist here is that it’s not limited to sniper rifle shots anymore. The killcam can also trigger for other firearms, and even knife attacks. So whether you’re across the map or right behind a guard, the game can still underline your precision.

There’s also improved ballistics. So your shots feel less like simple point-and-click and more like you’re working with a system that rewards patience and positioning. If you enjoy that moment of breathing, aiming, and committing, you’ll recognize the vibe immediately.

Weapon tweaks and ammo choices

You get a more developed weapon modification system. You can change many elements of each weapon, and you also have access to a wide selection of ammo types. Practically, it means you can tune your loadout to match your style. Quiet and controlled? Build for that. Want flexibility when the plan collapses and alarms start ringing? You can prepare for that too.

Modes: solo campaign, co-op, invasions, and multiplayer

The story campaign is the main dish, and you can finish it alone or in two-player co-op. Co-op is improved compared to the previous entry. You can share ammunition and equipment, and you can heal each other. It’s the kind of teamwork that turns a careful stealth run into a shared little story: “You cover the road, I slip inside,” and then five minutes later you’re both scrambling because someone spotted a body.

There’s also an invasion option. In this mode, you can enter other players’ campaign sessions as a German sniper and hunt them. It’s a tense idea: you’re in your mission flow, and suddenly you have to think like prey. Building on resistance themes seen in Sniper Elite: Resistance.

If you want more traditional online play, there are PvP matches for up to 16 players on one map. And if you’re in the mood for survival pressure, there’s a survival mode where three players fight waves of increasingly strong enemies. Simple setup, sharp stakes.

Presentation and feel

Technically, the game uses fully 3D graphics and focuses on large, detailed maps. The killcam upgrades also make eliminations more visually striking than before. But the real “feel” comes from the rhythm: slow observation, sudden action, and that small internal debate every time you line up a shot - do you take it now, or wait for a cleaner angle?
