The story takes you to an era when Viking bands raided and fought across Europe, with the game focusing on Norway in a time of constant conflict between clans. The inciting event is brutal: Steinarr Far-Spear kills your father and devastates your people. Gunnar’s answer is revenge, but the game does not let you skip the inconvenient part - you first need to build a way to survive.

The scenario is written by Giles Kristian, an English writer and singer known for thematically related works. That background shows in the premise: personal loss, clan politics, and the pressure of leadership when you would rather just swing an axe and be done with it.
