What is Atomfall?

You are about to enter a unique world in Atomfall. This game is a survival action title with RPG elements set in an alternate history version of the 1960s. The story builds on the real life Windscale nuclear incident but makes it much more severe leading to a large scale quarantine zone in the British countryside. Similar to ATOM RPG, it blends post-nuclear survival with deep RPG mechanics.

In the game you play as someone trying to figure out the secrets of this zone. Five years have passed since the disaster and the area has changed dramatically with various groups fighting for control.

How You Play the Game

You see everything from a first person perspective. The world is open for you to explore at your own pace. You walk through beautiful yet dangerous landscapes that include hills, valleys, villages, ruins, caves and bunkers.

Survival is key. You need to scavenge for supplies everywhere you go. Finding resources allows you to craft new weapons and useful items. You can also buy things from traders you meet along the way.

When it comes to combat you have options. You can use firearms but ammo is not abundant so you have to be careful. Melee combat is important and you might use a cricket bat for close encounters. The game even has you manage your heart rate to keep steady aim or have enough energy for powerful blows.

You can be loud and direct in fights or you can be stealthy and take enemies by surprise. This choice is yours to make based on the situation.

The Factions and the Mystery

The quarantine zone is divided between different factions. Some are strange cults with odd beliefs. Others are rogue government agencies with their own agendas. You get to meet the people living there and take on tasks from them.

Talking to characters is important. Through conversations and investigations you piece together what happened. Your decisions affect how the stories unfold. It is like a tapestry of narratives that you unravel step by step.

Enemies you face include hostile humans, mutated beings and well armed robots. Each encounter can be intense because resources are limited and you never know what you might run into next.

Inspirations Behind the Game

The developers at Rebellion took inspiration from cold war era paranoia and British folk horror. They also looked at science fiction stories like Day of the Triffids. This mix creates a setting that feels both familiar as the British countryside and completely strange due to the post apocalyptic elements. Atomfall combines action with survival and exploration in a way that keeps you thinking about your next move. Do you focus on the main mystery or help out the local factions? The sandbox nature lets you decide.
