The Bus is a city bus simulation focused on Berlin recreated at a true 1:1 scale. You do not just sit behind the wheel. You can also manage your own company, buy and maintain vehicles, hire staff, and plan routes. So if you want more than simple point A to point B driving like in Bus Simulator 18, this is where the game tries to stand out.
What The Bus lets you do
At its core, The Bus puts you on real Berlin lines and asks you to keep to the route, stop on time, and get passengers safely to their destination. Sounds calm? Sometimes yes. Then traffic gets messy, pedestrians appear where you did not expect them, and one awkward junction suddenly has your full attention.
You also handle everyday bus work. Passengers board and leave the vehicle, and you deal with ticket sales or ticket checks. There is a practical rhythm to it. Drive, stop, wait, watch the road, repeat. In a good sim, that loop matters. Here, it is clearly a big part of the appeal.
Berlin in 1:1 scale
The game gives you a large, detailed version of Berlin with real depots, stops, public locations, and recognizable landmarks. You can drive across multiple lines and discover places such as the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and the Victory Column. There are more than 200 stops, so the city is not just background decoration. It is the main stage.
You are not locked to the driver's seat all the time either. The Bus lets you move freely inside vehicles and around the world on foot. It is a small detail, but it helps the simulation feel less static.
Driving, controls, and day-to-day challenge
The driving side aims for flexibility. You can choose between Realistic, Arcade, and Custom control modes. That means you do not need to be a hardcore bus sim veteran on day one. If you want a more demanding feel, it is there. If you just want to learn the map and enjoy the flow, that option is there too.
The city changes while you play. There is a day and night cycle, changing weather, and different seasons. Traffic includes cars, trams, and pedestrians, with more complex traffic light logic than you might expect. Random events also add some variation, which is useful in a game built around regular routes.
- Drive official Berlin lines
- Follow timetables and stop correctly
- Sell tickets and handle boarding
- Watch dynamic traffic and weather
- Choose your preferred control style
Company management and multiplayer
If you want more strategy, The Bus includes an economy mode. Here you build a bus company, invest in vehicles, take care of maintenance and repairs, hire workers, and grow income through contracts and ticket sales. That changes the pace a lot. One session can feel like pure driving. Another can feel more like management with wheels attached, taking it further than Bus Simulator 21.
You can play alone or in multiplayer. In multiplayer, you drive through Berlin together, either on lines or more casually while exploring the city as a group. That makes a difference if you enjoy simulations that become more social with other players around.
Buses, tools, and extra features
The game includes officially licensed buses from Scania, MAN, and VDL, plus multiple vehicle variants. There is also an officially licensed ATRON onboard computer. On the technical side, you can play with mouse and keyboard, a controller, or a steering wheel. Tobii Eyetracking and TrackIR are supported as well.
Beyond that, you get a photo mode, route and timetable editors, Workshop content support, and modding features for creating your own additions. That part matters if you like sims that can keep growing over time instead of staying fixed out of the box.
Is The Bus worth your time?
The Bus looks most interesting if you enjoy detailed transport sims, structured driving, and a believable urban setting. The 1:1 scale Berlin, company management layer, solo and multiplayer options, and support for mods give it a broad range. If that loop of careful driving, passenger handling, and route management sounds satisfying to you, The Bus has a lot to work with.
