Oh, and puzzles? Yes, there are puzzles too. Sometimes you just stand there and stare at a door mechanism wondering what the heck to do next. It's not all combat. Platforming sections break up the action nicely.

The plot revolves around Gabriel's quest to save his wife's soul. The Brotherhood of Light sends him into a world overrun by darkness. It's personal. It's grim. And it works.
