Game Description

Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition is a PC isometric, turn-based fantasy CRPG from Larian Studios, built around party management, open-ended quests, environmental combat, and a classless character system. The storefront name remains Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition; it has not been replaced by a new definitive or rebranded edition. On GOG, the original game is listed separately as Divinity: Original Sin Classic and is included with the Enhanced Edition purchase.

This is the version to choose if you want the expanded campaign, revised encounters, full voice acting, controller support, and additional gameplay systems rather than the earlier Classic release.

A turn-based RPG built around interaction

The adventure begins with two Source Hunters investigating a murder in Rivellon. That premise quickly opens into a broad party-based campaign where conversations, exploration, investigation, combat, and experimentation all feed into one another.

Combat takes place from a three-quarter overhead perspective on tactical battlefields. Every character spends action points to move, attack, use skills, consume items, or manipulate the environment, so positioning and turn order matter as much as equipment.

The defining feature is the use of elemental surfaces and status interactions. Water can conduct electricity, oil can spread fire, poison can ignite, and steam can be electrified into a disabling cloud. These combinations can damage enemies, create crowd-control opportunities, block movement, or put your own party in danger.

Outside combat, the same freedom applies to quests. You can investigate clues, steal, persuade, craft, discover hidden routes, or solve problems through skills that were not explicitly presented as the intended solution. The game often rewards players who test what the world allows instead of following a single obvious path.

Classless builds and party decisions

Classless character creation lets you distribute attributes, abilities, talents, and skills without locking a hero into a traditional RPG class. A character can be rebuilt toward elemental magic, weapon combat, archery, sneaking, healing, crafting, or a hybrid role as your campaign develops.

That flexibility also creates room for inefficient builds. The system is less about selecting a perfect class at the start and more about understanding how abilities, equipment, resistances, action points, and status effects work together.

Your party is made up of recruitable companions with their own personalities, quests, and opinions. The two player-created protagonists also have a built-in relationship system, allowing them to disagree during important decisions and resolve conflicts through dialogue.

Players coming from classic party-based fantasy RPGs such as Pillars of Eternity will recognize the emphasis on companions, exploration, and dialogue, but Divinity places much more weight on physical objects and battlefield chemistry.

Enhanced Edition changes that matter

The Enhanced Edition is more than a simple visual update. It adds full voiceovers, revised story material, new dialogue, additional quests, new locations, new enemies, new skills, new weapon styles, balance changes, improved loot, and a new ending.

Its difficulty selection is unusually important. Explorer Mode reduces the pressure for players who want to prioritize the story, while Classic Mode provides the standard balance. Tactician Mode changes encounters with tougher enemy behavior, altered traps, and reworked combat situations.

At the top end, Honour Mode is aimed at players who want a highly punishing tactical campaign. It makes mistakes more consequential and encourages careful preparation, resource management, and disciplined saving habits.

The edition also introduces a more controller-friendly interface and supports dynamic split-screen co-op. These additions make the Enhanced Edition substantially more practical for couch play than the earlier PC version.

Campaign content and commercial structure

The core purchase is a complete single-player and cooperative RPG campaign rather than a free-to-play service. The main adventure includes the Enhanced Edition revisions and does not require a separate season pass to access its central story.

Steam currently lists the official soundtrack as separate additional content. GOG's Standard Edition includes Divinity: Original Sin Classic alongside the Enhanced Edition, while its Collector's Edition adds digital extras such as the soundtrack, art materials, design documents, and the Divinity Engine level editor.

The result is a storefront distinction worth understanding: Classic refers to the earlier version, while Enhanced Edition is the expanded edition with the revised campaign and modernized feature set. They are separate entries rather than two names for exactly the same build.

There is no live-service progression loop here. Replay value comes from different character builds, companion combinations, quest solutions, co-op decisions, difficulty modes, and the many combat encounters that can change depending on how you approach them.

Who should play it on PC?

Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition suits players who enjoy slow, tactical combat, dense inventory systems, party dialogue, exploration, and games that allow unconventional solutions. It is particularly strong for people who like testing combinations and accepting that an experiment can help or seriously inconvenience the party.

It is less suitable if you want a tightly guided narrative, fast combat, a clearly defined class role, or a campaign that rarely asks you to read tooltips and compare abilities. The game expects curiosity and patience, especially during the early sections when its systems are still being introduced.

Players who discovered Larian through choice-driven turn-based RPGs like Baldur's Gate 3 will find familiar ideas in its party conversations, reactive quests, and cooperative decision-making. The combat is more openly experimental, with environmental interactions often serving as the central puzzle.

PC features, multiplayer, and language support

The PC version supports keyboard and mouse controls as well as full controller support. Steam lists online co-op, shared or split-screen play, cross-platform multiplayer, Steam Cloud, Steam Remote Play Together, achievements, and captions.

Co-op is not an afterthought. Players can join online or use local split-screen, make decisions together, divide exploration, and pursue different objectives within the same broader campaign. The relationship and decision systems can create genuine disagreements between the two protagonists.

Storefront access differs by platform. Steam uses its normal client features and Steamworks integration, while the GOG version is DRM-free and can be installed through an offline installer without requiring GOG Galaxy. Cloud saves and achievement synchronization on GOG are optional platform services rather than prerequisites for playing.

English includes full audio and subtitles. The listed text and interface localizations also include French, Italian, German, Spanish, Russian, Polish, Czech, Simplified Chinese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese.

Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition FAQ

Yes. It contains the complete main campaign with revised story content, additional quests and locations, full voice acting, balance changes, new skills, new enemies, and a new ending.

Does it support online and local co-op?

Yes. The PC edition supports online cooperative play and local split-screen co-op. Steam also lists Remote Play Together, allowing supported local-style multiplayer through the Steam client.

Does the game use traditional RPG classes?

Yes. GOG identifies the game as DRM-free and provides an offline installation option. Galaxy is optional for features such as cloud synchronization and achievements.

What is the real gameplay loop?
