The game follows the Hollow Area story arc. You explore a massive zone filled with aggressive monsters and hidden treasures. Combat is skill-based. You chain sword skills together, time your parries, and manage your SP bar carefully. I spent an hour dying to the first boss. Not gonna lie, it humbled me.

There's also a relationship system. Yeah, that happens. You can build bonds with Asuna, Leafa, and other characters. Each relationship unlocks new dialogue, quests, and combat bonuses. The multiplayer mode lets you team up with friends, but the single-player story is where the heart is.
