You wake up as a young soul named Ki. The afterlife is cold, and your memories are gone. Four gods rule different domains here, and none of them are friendly. Honestly? You just want to remember who you were.

That's Evergate, a hand-drawn 2.5D platformer from indie studio Stone Lantern Games. It's inspired by titles like Child of Light and Arise A Simple Story. Yeah, that emotional stuff hits hard.

How Evergate Plays

The action is side-scrolling. You control Ki across lush, hand-drawn levels. The key mechanic is the Soulflame. Aim it at crystals to teleport, smash obstacles, or create shockwaves. I died a lot figuring out the timing.

There are over 100 puzzles across four domains. You unlock new abilities by recovering Ki's memories. Experiment with different crystal combinations. Sometimes you just stand there and stare at a puzzle, trying to figure out the solution.

Easy? Not really. But that's what makes it fun. Every time you fail, you learn something new. The soundtrack helps too - it's enchanting and keeps you going.
