What's it actually like to play? Picture this: you've got a handful of gold, a few hungry mercenaries, and a contract that pays just enough to keep the noose away. Combat is turn-based. Position your guys. Watch the enemy flank. I died. A lot. Honestly, the first few hours are brutal. You'll lose men, run out of coin, and watch your company fall apart. Then you learn.

You recruit smarter. You buy better armor. You start noticing the little things - how a shield wall holds against arrows, how a well-placed crossbow shot can turn a fight. The world is procedurally generated. Contracts vary. One day you're hunting bandits, the next you're clearing undead from a crypt. Sometimes you just stand there and stare at the map, wondering if that next road leads to treasure or a massacre.

There's permadeath for your brothers. Lose a veteran with a greatsword? That hurts. But you push on. That's the life of a mercenary. If you want more medieval strategy, check out Bannermen or Battle Chasers: Nightwar for a different flavor. Available in English.
