Tales of Berseria Remastered is an enhanced version of the 2016 action jRPG Tales of Berseria, bringing quality-of-life tweaks and selected DLC content into one package. You play from a third-person view and travel across the islands of the kingdom of Midgand. It’s the kind of adventure where you talk to locals, pick up quests, recruit allies, and then suddenly you’re in a fast real-time fight because, well, this is still a Tales of game.

What you do in Tales of Berseria Remastered

You explore an archipelago, follow story-driven objectives, and handle a steady flow of tasks along the way. This remaster adds destination markers, so you spend less time second-guessing where to go next. And when you’re in the mood to focus on plot and exploration, you can disable enemy encounters. It’s a simple switch, but it changes the pace a lot - especially if you just want to keep the story moving for a while.

Story setup: Velvet, betrayal, and a kingdom in trouble

Midgand is dealing with a plague that turns people into monsters. A ritual led by Artorius Collbrande is meant to help humanity resist the spreading disaster. For you, it gets personal. The main character, Velvet, is hit by a traumatic betrayal tied to these events, and that pushes her onto a path of revenge.

You don’t stay alone for long. As you progress, you’re joined by companions with their own motives and personalities. Like in other Tales games such as Tales of Xillia Remastered, the vibe is less “perfect heroes” and more “a crew that somehow works” - and yes, sometimes you’ll probably like one character more than the plan itself.

Combat: real-time, combo-focused, and full of artes

Fights play out in real time and lean into speed and improvisation. You’re expected to stay active, chain attacks into combos, and swap your approach depending on what’s happening on the battlefield. Your toolkit revolves around special techniques called artes, and you can choose them to match your preferred playstyle.

Combat also involves collecting enemy Souls to help you unleash heavier pressure when it counts. If you enjoy that rhythm of building momentum and then cashing it in for a flurry of hits, you’ll feel at home here.

What’s new in the remaster

The main additions are practical rather than flashy. They’re the kind of changes you notice most after a few hours, when you realize you’re spending more time playing and less time wrestling with friction.

  • Quest and destination markers to guide mission progression.
  • Option to disable enemy encounters when you want pure story and exploration.
  • Selected DLC content included, such as extra equipment and bonus costumes.

You also get access to the Grade Shop from the game’s opening, a feature fans may recognize.

Look and feel

Visually, Tales of Berseria Remastered keeps a manga-inspired style. Characters and scenes lean into that anime-like presentation, which fits the dramatic themes and the big emotional swings the story likes to throw at you.

Is Tales of Berseria Remastered worth your time?

If you want a singleplayer action jRPG with a revenge-driven lead, a party of distinct allies, and real-time battles built around artes and combos, Tales of Berseria Remastered is clearly aimed at you. The new markers and the ability to turn off encounters make it easier to play your way - whether you’re here for the fights, the story, or a bit of both.

Release date is set for February 27, 2026 for PC.
