Game Description
Nioh: Complete Edition on PC is a third-person masocore action RPG from Team NINJA and Koei Tecmo, built around demanding samurai combat, supernatural enemies, and deep equipment progression. The current PC storefront identity remains Nioh: Complete Edition on Steam and the Epic Games Store; there is no verified PC rebrand to a different edition or a separate Nioh Remastered listing.
Combat Built Around Ki, Timing, and Stance Changes
Nioh is not simply a Soulslike with a Japanese setting. Its combat is faster, more technical, and more dependent on maintaining momentum. Every weapon has High, Mid, and Low Stances, each changing attack patterns, damage, reach, speed, and defensive options.
The central resource is Ki, the stamina gauge used by both William and his enemies. Attacking, blocking, dodging, and sprinting all affect Ki, so reckless button presses can leave you unable to defend yourself. The Ki Pulse lets you recover spent Ki with precise timing, turning successful offense into a way to regain control of the fight.
Players can switch stances during or immediately after attacks, which makes combat feel closer to a weapon-based action game than a slow endurance test. Learning when to change stance, reposition, guard, or trigger a Ki Pulse is more important than relying on one powerful weapon.
Weapons, Skills, and the Yokai Threat
The arsenal covers katana, dual swords, spears, axes, kusarigama, and odachi, with tonfa added through the included expansion content. Each weapon type has its own skill tree, active techniques, passive bonuses, and preferred spacing.
Ranged weapons, bombs, traps, Ninjutsu, and Onmyo Magic expand the combat toolkit beyond ordinary swordplay. Ninja abilities can support stealth and ranged pressure, while Onmyo techniques provide elemental effects, defensive tools, and utility. Builds can be focused around a single weapon or spread across several complementary systems.
Human warriors are only part of the danger. Yokai create pools of corrupted energy called Yokai Realms, which disrupt Ki recovery and make positioning more dangerous. Guardian Spirits add another layer of customization, while the Living Weapon state temporarily surrounds William with supernatural power and changes how aggressively he can fight.
A Mission-Based Sengoku Campaign
Instead of presenting one uninterrupted open world, Nioh uses a regional mission map. From there, players select main missions, side missions, training activities, and optional challenges. Returning to completed areas is part of the structure, not a sign that the campaign has run out of content.
Shrines act as checkpoints and progression hubs. At a shrine, William can spend Amrita to level up, prepare equipment, manage guardian spirits, receive bonuses, and restock certain supplies. Resting also restores enemies, so every checkpoint creates a clear risk-and-reward decision.
Defeated enemies drop large quantities of randomized gear, making loot management a major part of the loop. Sorting weapons and armor, comparing bonuses, dismantling unwanted items, and refining a build are as important to long-term progress as gaining character levels.
What the Complete Edition Includes
The Complete Edition combines the main Nioh campaign with three substantial story expansions: Dragon of the North, Defiant Honor, and Bloodshed's End. Together, they add new scenarios, characters, locations, enemies, guardian spirits, and equipment.
Dragon of the North expands the story into the Tohoku region and introduces the conflict surrounding Date Masamune. Defiant Honor follows the winter campaign of the Siege of Osaka, while Bloodshed's End continues into the summer campaign and concludes William's main story.
The included additions also bring new weapon options such as Odachi and Tonfa. This makes the Complete Edition more than a bundle of cosmetic extras: its additional campaigns and combat choices are integrated into the broader progression and endgame structure.
Who Should Play Nioh on PC?
Nioh suits players who enjoy mastering demanding combat while constantly improving a character build. It is especially appealing if you like stance switching, precision-based stamina control, randomized loot, repeatable missions, and bosses that require observation rather than button mashing.
The game is also a strong fit for players interested in a dark fantasy interpretation of Sengoku-era Japan. Historical figures and locations sit alongside yokai folklore, guardian spirits, magic, and exaggerated martial-arts techniques.
It is less suitable for anyone looking for a relaxed action RPG, a seamless open-world journey, or a simple equipment system. Nioh expects players to read tutorials, test unfamiliar skills, and spend regular time in menus. Its complexity is part of the appeal, but it is not optional background detail.
PC Features, Controls, and Online Play
The PC edition supports keyboard and mouse controls as well as gamepad input. The official manual documents separate keyboard-only and keyboard-and-mouse layouts, and the control settings allow players to change control types and customize the available bindings.
A controller remains a natural way to play because stance changes, guard timing, dodges, weapon swaps, and Ki Pulses are all frequent actions. Keyboard and mouse are supported, but players should expect the interface and prompts to feel more closely aligned with a gamepad-oriented design.
The PC versions are distributed through Steam and the Epic Games Store, so the relevant storefront launcher is part of the platform experience. There is no verified dedicated PC anti-cheat feature or mod-support ecosystem to highlight, and Nioh should be approached as a primarily self-contained action RPG rather than a mod platform.
Online features include cooperative play, visitor assistance, player-versus-player elements, Steam achievements, cloud support, and leaderboards. The game does not provide split-screen couch co-op. Its campaign is fully playable solo, with online participation serving as optional help or an additional challenge layer.
Text and interface localization covers English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese, with Portuguese available in both European and Brazilian forms. Full voice audio is available in English and Japanese.
How Nioh Compares With Other PC Action RPGs
Nioh shares its checkpoint-based challenge structure with methodical third-person soulslikes such as Dark Souls III, but its stance system, Ki Pulse, and loot volume make its moment-to-moment combat more technical and build-focused.
Players who prefer broad exploration can look toward open-world soulslikes like Elden Ring, while Nioh offers a tighter mission map and more concentrated combat encounters. The comparison is useful, but Nioh is closer to a mission-driven action RPG with Diablo-style equipment density than to a pure exploration game.
Its closest identity is therefore a blend of fast samurai action, Souls-inspired risk management, and loot-driven character building. That combination remains the reason to choose Nioh over a more conventional dark fantasy RPG.
Nioh: Complete Edition FAQ
Is Nioh: Complete Edition still the current PC name?
Yes. The PC storefront listings and publisher pages continue to use Nioh: Complete Edition. No verified PC rename or replacement edition needs to be substituted when searching for the game.
What is included in Nioh: Complete Edition?
It includes the main game and the three story expansions Dragon of the North, Defiant Honor, and Bloodshed's End, along with their additional scenarios, characters, guardian spirits, enemies, and weapons.
Does Nioh: Complete Edition have online co-op?
Yes. Online cooperative features allow other players to assist during missions, and the game also includes competitive online elements. The full campaign can be played solo, but there is no split-screen local co-op.
Can Nioh be played with keyboard and mouse?
Yes. The PC version provides keyboard-only and keyboard-and-mouse control layouts, with configurable settings documented in the official PC manual. A gamepad is also supported and may feel more natural for frequent stance and weapon changes.
Does Nioh have a traditional open world?
No. Its structure is based on a regional mission map with main missions, side missions, training activities, and optional challenges. Players return to completed regions as they pursue new objectives, better equipment, and more difficult encounters.
Is Nioh mainly about story or repeatable mastery?
The story provides the framework, but the long-term appeal comes from combat mastery, build experimentation, loot optimization, optional missions, cooperative assistance, and higher-difficulty progression. Players who enjoy refining a character after the main path will find substantially more depth than a single straightforward campaign suggests.
