Game Description
TY the Tasmanian Tiger PC is a third-person 3D collectathon platformer from Krome Studios. The current Steam storefront still uses the original name, while describing this product as a remastered version of the classic game; it has not been renamed to TY the Tasmanian Tiger HD or replaced by a numbered edition. This is the first game in the series, presented as a single-player Australian adventure with modernized PC features.
You play as TY, a Tasmanian tiger searching for five mystical talismans that can free his family from the Dreaming. Boss Cass, an evil cassowary, is pursuing the same artifacts, leaving TY to explore the Australian Outback, rescue trapped bilbies, and recover the collectibles needed to move forward.
Classic 3D Platforming With a Boomerang Focus
TY the Tasmanian Tiger uses a third-person camera and a straightforward movement set built around running, jumping, swimming, climbing, biting, and throwing boomerangs. The controls are easy to understand, but the level layouts add depth by placing collectibles, enemies, and optional objectives away from the most direct route.
The main progression loop is built around exploring large themed stages, finding Thunder Eggs, and completing the objectives that open new areas. Some tasks involve defeating enemies, while others ask you to locate hidden items, rescue characters, win races, or overcome environmental challenges.
Exploration is supported by a hub-and-level structure rather than one seamless open world. The game includes 17 Outback levels, with distinct environments that range from tropical and coastal areas to colder and more rugged landscapes. Returning to earlier locations is worthwhile when a newly acquired boomerang makes a previously inaccessible object or route reachable.
Players looking for a more modern collectathon structure may also enjoy open-area 3D platform adventures like Yooka-Laylee, although TY keeps its progression more compact and its objectives more directly tied to individual stages.
Thirteen Boomerangs, Multiple Uses
TY's signature system is its collection of 13 different boomerangs. The weapons are not simple cosmetic variations. Several are designed around elemental effects or specialized functions, giving the player new ways to attack enemies, activate objects, solve level problems, and access hidden routes.
The arsenal includes recognizable tools such as the Frostyrang, Flamerang, and Doomerang. Other boomerangs support different combat and exploration situations, so switching equipment is part of the game's practical rhythm rather than a late-game bonus.
Standard biting attacks remain useful at close range, especially when freeing characters or dealing with enemies that are awkward to hit from a distance. The result is a deliberately simple action system: movement handles traversal, while the boomerang selection supplies most of the game's tactical variety.
Boss encounters provide larger combat tests and act as important progression gates. The PC edition also allows defeated boss areas to be revisited, giving completion-focused players a reason to return instead of treating each major encounter as a one-time event.
Collectibles and Completion Goals
TY is designed for players who like searching every corner of a level. Alongside Thunder Eggs, stages contain Rainbow Scales, Golden Cogs, trapped bilbies, opals, and other completion targets. The exact value of each collectible differs, but together they create a broad checklist that rewards careful exploration.
Golden Cogs are particularly important because they support TY's boomerang progression. Finding them encourages players to inspect side paths and elevated platforms instead of rushing straight toward the next story objective.
The collection loop is not built around procedural generation or randomized builds. Levels are authored spaces with repeatable layouts, making the game a good fit for players who prefer learning routes, improving completion percentages, and revisiting familiar areas with better tools.
Steam achievements reinforce that structure with 39 achievement goals. These cover progression, exploration, combat, collectible milestones, and special challenges, giving completionists an additional reason to master the full campaign rather than only reaching the ending.
Remastered PC Content and Commercial Model
The current PC product is a paid standalone game published by Krome Studios on Steam. The base purchase contains the complete remastered platforming adventure, including its campaign, boomerang arsenal, Outback levels, boss encounters, and collectible systems.
The storefront also lists optional extras rather than gameplay expansions. The available add-ons are the TY the Tasmanian Tiger Soundtrack and The Art of TY the Tasmanian Tiger. There is no listed season pass, multiplayer expansion, or set of paid story chapters for this game.
Steam also offers bundles that group the first game with other entries in the series, including TY the Tasmanian Tiger 2, TY the Tasmanian Tiger 3, and TY the Tasmanian Tiger 4. Those bundles do not change the identity of this product: the page titled TY the Tasmanian Tiger remains the remastered first game.
The remaster adds more than a simple storefront port. Its listed improvements include updated shadows, reflections, higher-resolution display options, improved camera behavior, character skins, an audio director's cut, and the additional Hardcore Mode.
Who Should Play TY on PC?
TY the Tasmanian Tiger is a strong match for players who want a colorful, accessible 3D platformer with a clear collectible checklist. It suits fans of mascot adventures, early-2000s console platforming, family-friendly action, and stage exploration that does not depend on complex character builds.
The game is also a reasonable choice for completionists who enjoy finding hidden objects and gradually improving a level's completion status. Its authored stages make progress easy to understand, while the boomerang upgrades add enough variation to keep exploration from being purely cosmetic.
Players seeking difficult precision platforming, deep combat systems, online multiplayer, or a large role-playing progression tree should set expectations accordingly. TY's appeal comes from its focused platforming loop, not from build experimentation or competitive systems.
For a more surreal character-driven platformer with stronger psychic abilities and unusual level concepts, story-heavy 3D platformers such as Psychonauts offer a different kind of exploration and humor.
PC Features, Controls, and Localization
The PC version is distributed through Steam and supports keyboard and mouse input as well as controller play. Camera behavior can be adjusted, and the PC release includes configurable controls for players who want to change movement, aiming, or boomerang functions.
Steam integration includes Steam Cloud, achievements, trading cards, leaderboards, and Family Sharing. The leaderboards are especially relevant to players interested in time-focused challenges and repeat runs through the game's races and stages.
This is a single-player game. The storefront does not list local co-op, split-screen, online co-op, or competitive multiplayer, so the campaign is built for one player from start to finish.
Interface, full audio, and subtitle support are listed for English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish. This makes the current PC edition more accessible than an English-only release while keeping the original voice presentation intact across the supported languages.
