Trek to Yomi is an action game, realized in the form of a side-scroll platformer. The production was developed by an independent developer Leonard Menchiari (author of The Eternal Castle [Remastered] and Riot: Civil Unrest), in cooperation with the Polish studio Flying Wild Hog, and published by Devolver Digital.
Storyline
Trek to Yomi takes us on a journey to feudal Japan. Main hero of the game is Hiroki - young samurai who swore to his dying master that he will protect his city from all threats. Although in the moment of trial the protagonist succumbs to the onslaught of evil forces, in the end he decides to once again grab a sword and try to fulfill the oath made to his mentor.
Mechanics
In Trek to Yomi we observe the action mainly from the side, although selected scenes are presented from various cinematic shots. During the gameplay we go through atmospheric locations and fight fierce battles with enemies, chopping them up with katana. Clashes are dynamic and require from us both agility and attention. On our way there are not only other swordsmen, but also supernatural creatures.
Technical issues
Trek to Yomi has a unique, monochromatic graphics, which, combined with the atmospheric soundtrack and characteristic camera shots, makes us feel as if we were interacting with one of the films by the famous Akira Kurosawa.
