Game Description
Aliens: Fireteam Elite on PC is a cooperative third-person survival shooter from Cold Iron Studios and Focus Entertainment Publishing. The current PC storefront name remains Aliens: Fireteam Elite, with no verified rebrand replacing the original title. Its focus is direct action: three-player fireteams, class-based builds, replayable campaigns, and escalating Xenomorph encounters set in the Alien universe.
How the Fireteam Combat Loop Works
Each mission sends a squad of Colonial Marines through hostile facilities, ruined colonies, and infested research sites while completing objectives and surviving enemy waves. The camera stays behind the player, giving the game a clear third-person shooter perspective built around positioning, target priority, and controlled movement.
Players can team up online with two other Marines or enter missions with AI teammates. The AI squadmates allow solo players to experience the campaigns, but the strongest results come from coordinated human teams that divide combat roles and manage overlapping abilities.
The game includes four replayable campaigns, each broken into mission-based operations. Encounters combine corridor pushes, defensive positions, objective interactions, elite enemies, and sudden swarm attacks. Rather than functioning as a pure horror game, Fireteam Elite emphasizes rapid gunplay, formation discipline, and holding a defensible line when enemies attack from vents, doors, walls, and ceilings.
Enemy variety is central to the pressure. Xenomorphs range from Facehuggers and runners to tougher specialists such as Spitters, Prowlers, Warriors, and Praetorians, while Weyland-Yutani Synthetics create a different combat problem with ranged weapons, armor, and heavy units.
Class Kits, Weapons, and Build Planning
The current game supports seven class kits: Gunner, Demolisher, Technician, Doc, Recon, Phalanx, and Lancer. Each kit has a distinct battlefield purpose, active abilities, class perks, and weapon access that changes how a squad approaches a mission.
Gunner supports sustained damage and team buffs, Demolisher specializes in explosive crowd control, Technician deploys defensive equipment, and Doc provides healing and support. Recon improves team awareness and combat efficiency, while Phalanx uses a shield to create a mobile defensive position. Lancer adds a heavy-class option focused on powerful attacks and holding ground.
Progression is more deliberate than simply unlocking stronger guns. The Perk Board lets players arrange class perks into a limited layout, creating meaningful choices about ability recharge, damage, survivability, and support effects. The board encourages experimentation because a build optimized for close-range swarm control may be less useful against Synth-heavy encounters.
The arsenal contains more than 30 weapons and a large selection of attachments and modifications. Weapon use contributes to progression, so regularly changing firearms can broaden a Marine's options while also requiring players to understand weapon handling, range, ammunition, and class compatibility.
Before a mission, the Challenge Card system can alter the run with special conditions, rewards, or restrictions. Cards may increase risk, change enemy behavior, or modify the way a mission is played. They are most effective when the whole team agrees on the risk and selects a card that complements its build rather than treating every mission as a standard clear.
Campaigns, Horde Modes, and Endgame Structure
Fireteam Elite is structured around repeatable operations rather than an open-world campaign. Completing missions earns experience, credits, weapon progression, class advancement, attachments, and cosmetic rewards. Higher difficulties increase the importance of fire lanes, friendly-fire awareness, ability timing, and ammunition discipline.
Horde Mode focuses on defending a position through escalating enemy waves. It is a natural testing ground for builds because each class must contribute efficiently when there is less room to retreat and fewer opportunities to reset the fight.
Point Defense changes the objective by asking the team to protect, repair, and hold three strategic points through multiple attacks. Players earn Fabrication Points during the waves and spend them on temporary consumables, making resource timing part of the defense.
Restock Turrets adds another defensive structure to the formula. The team must survive attacks while keeping turrets supplied, which shifts attention between crowd control, movement, and maintaining the tools that make later waves manageable.
For players seeking a harsher progression loop, Hardcore Mode introduces permadeath for the active character. Unlocks earned during the run remain available for future use, but losing the Marine ends that character's progress. This mode suits experienced players who understand the classes and want consequences beyond a normal failed mission.
What the Editions Include
The Standard Edition contains the base game and the free gameplay updates released for its core content. That includes the additional class kits, defensive modes, progression features, and other free additions rather than reserving every meaningful system for paid ownership.
The major paid gameplay expansion is Pathogen. It adds a separate campaign on LV-895, new enemies, rewards, weapons, and perks connected to the pathogen threat. It is sold separately or included in editions that bundle the base game with the expansion.
The Endeavor Pass is primarily a cosmetic package covering four seasonal DLC bundles. Its contents include outfits, head accessories, weapon colors, decals, emotes, and related customization items. The Endeavor Veteran Pack adds further cosmetic equipment and a weapon, while the Ultimate-style bundle combines the base game, Pathogen, the pass, and the veteran items.
This content model matters for buyers. The free updates expand the playable framework, while Pathogen is the paid campaign expansion and the Endeavor Pass is chiefly for players who want additional visual customization.
PC Features and Online Play
The PC version is distributed through Steam and supports online co-op, single-player play with AI teammates, Steam achievements, Steam Cloud, and cross-platform multiplayer. Crossplay makes it possible to form a fireteam across supported platforms, which is useful when a squad is divided between PC and console.
Steam lists full controller support, while mouse and keyboard remain natural choices for players who prefer precise third-person aiming. The game also includes improved ultrawide support through PC updates, although unusual display configurations may still benefit from checking the in-game presentation settings.
Localization covers 12 supported languages on Steam. English includes full audio, while the other listed languages are provided through interface and subtitle support. The game uses Steam as its PC platform account environment, and online features require an internet connection.
The publisher's EULA identifies Easy Anti-Cheat as an anti-cheat service that may be loaded for relevant sessions. This is worth knowing for PC players who check background services and online security requirements before buying a multiplayer game.
There is no verified local split-screen mode for PC. The intended multiplayer structure is online co-op, with solo play handled through AI companions when human teammates are unavailable.
Who Should Play Aliens: Fireteam Elite?
Fireteam Elite suits players who want a straightforward co-op shooter with recognizable Alien equipment, class roles, mission repetition, and build experimentation. It is particularly effective for groups that enjoy learning enemy patterns, setting up firing positions, and replaying operations on higher difficulties.
It is less suitable for players seeking slow, stealth-heavy survival horror or a single-player RPG with extensive dialogue choices. The campaign provides context for the Alien setting, but the main attraction is the combat loop rather than branching narrative design.
Players who enjoy four-person mission structure and card-driven co-op pressure can compare its team rhythm with co-op campaign shooters such as Back 4 Blood. Fireteam Elite uses class kits and Perk Boards instead of a full deckbuilding system, so its build planning is more persistent between missions.
Similar PC Co-op Shooters
For larger-scale swarm encounters and class progression, horde-focused third-person co-op games like World War Z: Aftermath are a close structural comparison. Fireteam Elite is more committed to Alien-inspired corridors, defensive firing lanes, and specialized Marine abilities, while World War Z: Aftermath emphasizes enormous zombie formations and location-based episodes.
The closest alternatives depend on what matters most to the player. Choose Fireteam Elite for the Alien setting, third-person class combat, and Challenge Cards; choose a more tactical squad game when deliberate command decisions matter more than direct shooting; choose a broader horde shooter when enemy scale is the main attraction.
