GOD FORSAKEN is a PC action RPG that mixes hack’n’slash combat with roguelike structure and a wave-based “arena survival” rhythm. You watch the chaos from an isometric view and spend most of your time doing what you came for: cutting through hordes, staying mobile, and trying not to get overwhelmed when the screen fills up.
The setting is a grim fantasy land where the light is fading and monsters feel bold under the cover of night. It’s not just background flavor, either. Darkness is a real problem you have to manage, not only a mood. If you like your ARPGs fast, messy, and a little tense, this one is clearly aiming in that direction.
What you do in GOD FORSAKEN
You start by choosing a class and stepping into a journey across varied locations. Expect places like ancient ruins and dark dungeons. Your main job is simple on paper: survive and clear enemies that often come in waves, similar to arena survival games. In practice, it turns into constant movement, quick decisions, and that familiar loop of “one more fight, one more drop.”
Combat is described as dynamic. You’re juggling attacks and combat abilities while trying to avoid getting hit. Regular enemies show up in bulk, and then tougher foes appear as bosses. When numbers get high, standing still starts to feel like a mistake. So you kite, you burst, you reposition. Repeat.
Classes, talent trees, and build freedom
Before the slaughter begins, you pick your class. The available options include a warrior, hunter, warlock, and necromancer. Each class has its own unique talent tree, so your choice matters for long-term identity and progression.
Here’s the twist that changes how you plan: even though classes have distinct trees, you can still use any weapon and the same starting abilities regardless of class. That opens up weird combinations. The kind where you try something “wrong” on purpose and it somehow works. Or it doesn’t, and you learn fast.
Skill extensions inspired by rune-style mods
Your abilities can be developed through special extensions inspired by Path of Exile-style skill runes. The important part is what that implies: you aren’t locked into one obvious upgrade path. You can mix and match to shape a build that fits how you like to fight - aggressive, safe, spammy, careful, whatever keeps you alive when the waves stack up.
Darkness as a mechanic, not just a theme
In GOD FORSAKEN, darkness is an active threat. It causes gradual degradation of your character’s mental health, and at the same time it empowers the monsters you’re fighting. So the longer you let the dark sit on you, the worse things get. It’s a pressure system that pushes you to act, not stall.
Your counterplay is practical and very old-school: you light a torch. It’s a small detail with big consequences. You’re not only thinking about damage and dodging anymore - you’re also thinking about keeping the dark under control. Ever had a run where everything felt fine, then suddenly you realized you were fighting the environment too? That’s the vibe.
Loot and replay value
As you progress, you collect new equipment that is generated randomly. That randomness supports the roguelike side of the game and keeps your runs from feeling identical. Sometimes you get a piece that clearly fits your plan. Sometimes you get something that makes you rethink your plan on the spot.
- Isometric ARPG combat focused on constant motion
- Wave-based enemy pressure with boss fights
- Class talent trees plus flexible weapons and starting skills
- Rune-like extensions that encourage build experiments
- Darkness that harms mental health and buffs enemies, countered by torches
- Randomly generated gear to chase between runs
If you’re deciding whether it’s for you, ask yourself: do you enjoy being outnumbered on purpose, then building a character that can handle it anyway? If yes, GOD FORSAKEN is built around that exact problem - and the satisfaction of solving it.
