Another smart feature is how difficulty works. Instead of choosing a standard difficulty mode at the start, you collect special crystals that let you modify gameplay parameters, such as the number of lives or the strength of attacks. So if a section is giving you trouble, the game offers ways to adjust the experience. You still have to earn that help through exploration, which is a nice touch.

The revive system also makes long boss fights less frustrating. When your character falls, you can spend a life to revive on the spot instead of repeating the whole stretch from a checkpoint. Simple idea, honestly, but very welcome. Like in upcoming titles such as Planet of Lana II, smart mechanics enhance challenging encounters.
