King Arthur Knights Tale

King Arthur: Knight's Tale is a tactical RPG with strategy elements. The production was developed by NeocoreGames, a Hungarian studio whose portfolio includes such titles as The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing series and Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr. The title is the next part of the King Arthur series which began in 2009.

The plot

Main hero of King Arthur: Knight's Tale is Mordred. Protagonist managed to kill King Arthur, but he also fell victim to a fatal blow. The Lady of the Lake transported the ruler to mystical Avalon, not anticipating that the pain that consumed him would change him beyond recognition. The king has become the leader of a dark army that is turning Avalon into a nightmare world. The Lady of the Lake has no choice but to bring Mordred back to life and entrust him with the task of stopping Arthur once and for all. Further fate of both the protagonist and the whole Avalon depends on the decisions we make during the game.

Mechanics

In King Arthur: Knight's Tale the action is shown from the bird's eye view. The pillar of the game are missions that push forward the story and numerous side quests, which we choose from the extensive world map. They take us to various dark locations such as dense forests, moors or dark tunnels. Wandering through them, we often have to face our opponents; we're talking about more than fifty types of standard adversaries as well as ten much more powerful bosses. Clashes with them take place in turn-based mode, and during them we have to show a tactical sense, properly spacing our team members and skillfully juggling their abilities.

As you progress, Mordred is joined by other heroes (there are over thirty of them); each of them represents one of five professions and possesses individual skills, which we develop in the course of the adventure. What's interesting, we can take them on our own missions, as well as give them separate tasks. It's worth to be careful, because their death on the battlefield is permanent and healing their wounds is a very time-consuming process. Besides, warriors often come into conflict with each other and carefully watch our actions, so if we mess up with them, they can leave our team or even turn against us.

In addition, during the game we have to improve Camelot castle which is our command center (constructions built within it give us access to various improvements). In addition, due to the fact that seven warring factions fight for control over Avalon, we often have to make decisions of global importance; it depends only on us whether we decide to help the inhabitants of the land or rule with a firm hand, not paying attention to their needs.

After completing the main story we can try our hand at special challenges that test our abilities; among them there are various procedurally generated tasks and clashes with powerful bosses. In return for completing them we get access to valuable rewards.

Technical issues

The graphic design of King Arthur: Knight's Tale is kept in a dark style. The whole was prepared on the basis of photogrammetric scans, while the animations were prepared using motion capture technology.
